The prequel to Yellowstone, titled 1923, is set to return for another season.
This spinoff series first debuted in December 2022, and it continues the story from 1883, the original prequel of Yellowstone. It features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Cara and Jacob Dutton, who are ancestors of Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton III, from Yellowstone. The inaugural season depicted the Dutton family as they faced significant challenges, including a historic drought and Prohibition.

Who Will Be in the Season 2 Cast of ‘1923’?
Both Ford and Mirren are returning to reprise their roles. They will be joined by returning cast members from season 1, including Brandon Sklenar (Spencer Dutton), Julia Schlaepfer (Alexandra), Jerome Flynn (Banner Creighton), Darren Mann (Jack Dutton), Brian Geraghty (Zane Davis), Aminah Nieves (Teonna Rainwater), Michelle Randolph (Liz Stratford), and Timothy Dalton (Donald Whitfield).
Dexter alum Jennifer Carpenter will also join the cast as U.S. Deputy Marshall Mamie Fossett.
What Will Season 2 of ‘1923’ Cover?
In the second season of the Paramount+ original, the Duttons will confront a fresh array of challenges.
According to an official synopsis, “In season 2 of 1923, a harsh winter ushers in new obstacles and unresolved issues for Jacob and Cara back at Dutton ranch. With fierce conditions and adversaries threatening the Dutton legacy, Spencer embarks on a treacherous journey home, racing against time to safeguard his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra undertakes her own perilous trans-Atlantic journey to reunite with Spencer and reclaim their love.”
1923 creator Taylor Sheridan mentioned that season 2 is essentially “the second half of the [first] season” during an interview with Deadline in December 2022.
“I made the call to the network that is probably the best call they ever received: ‘Hey, we need to make more episodes to complete this story. I need to do this in two blocks, an eight-episode block followed by a second eight-episode block to do the narrative justice,’” Sheridan noted.
He also shared that Ford and Mirren were “excited” and “eager” to continue with a second season.
“At one point, Harrison remarked, ‘Taylor, I believe I’m doing the best thing I’ve done in 20 years.’ To which I replied, ‘What on earth did you create 20 years ago that is as good as this?’”
Is There a Trailer Available for Season 2 of ‘1923’?
Indeed, Paramount+ released a teaser for the new season in December 2024. The clip highlights the Duttons in their struggle to protect their family ranch.
“In Montana, there’s a battle over my family’s land, and they’re losing it,” Spencer declares before stating his intention to return from Africa to aid them. “I know what I need to do. I’m coming home.”
A month later, Paramount+ released the official season 2 trailer, which verifies that Spencer will do whatever it takes to return to Montana and preserve his family’s ranch. “My family is in jeopardy. My wife thinks she’s lost me, and I’m running out of time,” a battered Spencer confesses at one point.
Meanwhile, Cara expresses her hope that Spencer can return after discovering that Whitefield is intent on transforming “Montana into a playground for the elite.”
Whitefield’s strategy involves seizing the Dutton ranch at all costs. “It’s time to assemble that army you promised me,” he instructs his associate Creighton.
In other moments from the trailer, Cara and Jacob both prepare for battle, showcasing their readiness to fight for the ranch. “Of all the sacrifices I’ve made for this ranch, this is the most demanding,” Cara remarks from her vantage point.
Jacob pledges to protect the family ranch, while Creighton is prepared to eliminate the entire Dutton line. “Kill them all. I mean, eliminate every one of them,” he commands.
The trailer forebodes an epic struggle as the family must “defend or perish” in their quest to protect their land.
When Will Season 2 of ‘1923’ Premiere?
Season 2 of 1923 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on Sunday, February 23. New episodes will air weekly on Sundays. Season 1 is currently streaming on the platform.
