3 Underrated Films to Stream This December 2025
Streaming services offer extensive and easily accessible libraries of films from around the globe, giving viewers the opportunity to explore titles they might not have come across otherwise.
In December 2025, Watch With Us aims to shine a spotlight on three films that we believe deserve more recognition, featuring talent such as Julianne Moore and Robert Pattinson.
First on our list is The Canyons, an erotic thriller-drama set in Los Angeles, featuring Lindsay Lohan. We also recommend Maps to the Stars, a biting satire of the entertainment industry directed by David Cronenberg.
Check out the complete list of films below, along with their streaming details.
‘The Canyons’ (2013)
A wealthy film producer named Christian (James Deen) learns that his girlfriend, Tara (Lohan), is having an affair with Ryan (Nolan Funk), the lead actor in his next low-budget B-movie, who is also dating Christian’s assistant, Gina (Amanda Brooks). The four young Angelenos become ensnared in a dark web of sex and betrayal, as an increasingly paranoid Christian descends into violent chaos.
Directed by Paul Schrader (First Reformed) and penned by Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho), The Canyons faced harsh criticism at its release but has cultivated a small, dedicated fan base who view it as a misunderstood gem. It’s sleazy, cynical, and intentionally ugly—a challenging yet fascinating watch that provides sharper commentary on Hollywood, performance, and capitalism than it often receives.

‘Eagle vs Shark’ (2007)
Celebrated for directing Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, Taika Waititi makes his feature debut in this film starring Jemaine Clement as Jarrod, a socially awkward video game store clerk who gets caught up in a quirky romance with Lily (Loren Horsley). When Lily shows up at Jarrod’s costume party and impresses him with her gaming skills, their unique relationship blossoms, punctuated by Jarrod’s schemes to avenge himself on his high school bully.
Awkwardly humorous and endearing, Eagle vs Shark serves as a delightful introduction to Waititi’s filmmaking style, showcasing the deadpan comedic flair that would further flourish in works like What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. This charming, offbeat comedy is both unique and entertaining, featuring a standout performance by Clement.

‘Maps to the Stars’ (2014)
This darkly humorous satire features Julianne Moore as Havana Segrand, a distressed Hollywood actress contemplating a comeback by portraying her own legendary movie star mother in a film. Simultaneously, she employs an odd young woman named Agatha (Mia Wasikowska) as her personal assistant, who carries a perilous secret. Meanwhile, the son of Havana’s therapist (John Cusack), former child star Benjie Weiss (Evan Bird), struggles with his own attempts to reclaim fame after a period in rehab.
Though it may appear silly on the surface, Maps to the Stars serves as a scathing critique of Western culture and the film industry, offering unsettling insights. With clear ties to David Lynch‘s Mulholland Drive, Maps to the Stars dives into the perversion and darkness within the movie business, creating a chilling atmosphere accentuated by an unsettling yet phenomenal performance from Moore.
