‘Steve’ (2025)
Directed by Tim Mielants, who previously collaborated with Cillian Murphy in last year’s Netflix project Small Things Like These, Steve stars the Academy Award-winning actor as the headmaster of a school for children with behavioral challenges. The story centers on Murphy’s character, who faces the struggle of meeting his students’ needs while grappling with his own mental health issues during a particularly challenging day.
At just 93 minutes, Steve may seem like a light watch, but it’s anything but. The film offers an emotionally intense and exhausting experience that is ultimately rewarding. Its depth reflects the protagonist’s mental state, with the audience witnessing the myriad challenges he encounters over a single day. Murphy delivers a phenomenal performance, grounding the often absurd circumstances.
