The Holiday TV Series Unveiled, But Without Nancy Meyers
Nancy Meyers seems completely unaware of her cherished film The Holiday getting a television remake.
“News to me,” Meyers, 75, shared via her Instagram Story on Friday, August 1, alongside a news article about the Christmas movie being adapted into a “limited series” on AppleTV+.
The director remarked, “Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and saw this as the first post,” paired with an emoji scratching its chin in confusion.
The announcement came on Friday from Deadline, stating that AppleTV+ is transforming the 2006 hit The Holiday into a limited series, reimagining the original story with fresh characters.
Reports indicate that Krissie Ducker will serve as the writer and executive producer for the upcoming series, produced by Bank Pictures. Rob Delaney is also set to act as a consultant on the project.
Casting for the lead roles is reportedly in progress, which will retain the essential plotline of an American and a British woman exchanging homes during the holidays. Deadline noted that AppleTV+’s U.K. team is spearheading the series, which is yet to receive a green light.
The Holiday debuted in 2006, following L.A. movie trailer editor Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and English journalist Iris (Kate Winslet) as they swap houses for two weeks during Christmas.
Both women aim to move past their romantic troubles. Amanda’s partner has betrayed her, while Iris’ ex is marrying someone else — all while keeping her in the loop unnecessarily.
Despite not actively seeking love, Amanda and Iris find themselves unexpectedly enmeshed in enchanting holiday romances, which fans continue to celebrate year after year. Jude Law and Jack Black complete the star-studded cast as their potential love interests, Graham and Miles.
As The Holiday solidifies its status as a holiday favorite, the news of a TV reboot has elicited mixed responses. Some fans are thrilled for a fresh take on the beloved film, while others prefer Meyers’ original version.
“If this has even half the charm of the original, we’re in for a treat,” one user commented on X. “Who else is watching this? Cuz I will,” another fan tweeted.
On the pro-Meyers side, one user stated, “If Nancy Meyers isn’t involved, I’m protesting Apple (Also, why are we doing this???).”
Another user tweeted, “Nancy Meyers crafts believable, authentic characters with thoroughly examined backstories. If it’s not reminiscent of Nancy Meyers’ style — keep it away.”
While Meyers isn’t currently involved with The Holiday series, she has previously hinted at a potential movie sequel.
In December 2024, Meyers, who both wrote and directed the romantic comedy, met with Law, 52, for lunch and jokingly suggested that they should collaborate on another film.
Meyers filmed herself asking Law, “Is there going to be a sequel? What are your thoughts?” As Law considered the question, he playfully transformed into Mr. Napkin Head from the movie.
The actor draped a white napkin over his head, added glasses, and scratched his chin. “Is that a yes, Jude?” Meyers asked.
