Kimberly Van Der Beek Shares Heartwarming Behind-the-Scenes Moments from Dawson’s Creek Event
Kimberly Van Der Beek, the wife of James Van Der Beek, is offering fans a glimpse into the Dawson’s Creek reunion.
On Tuesday, September 23, Kimberly, 43, took to Instagram to post a selfie from the event featuring Busy Philipps, Michelle Williams, and Katie Holmes. The four women gathered closely, showcasing bright smiles for the camera.
“Connecting more deeply with these incredible ladies has been a bittersweet experience,” Kimberly captioned the image. “They embody magic, kindness, talent, and a heart full of love… truly sacred.”
Although Kimberly expressed that she “missed my guy so” since James, 48, could not attend the reunion due to illness, she noted that the “support and love have been profoundly healing.”
“I’ll share more as time goes on. This spontaneous moment was a blast as we rushed up and down several flights of stairs to our dressing rooms,” she concluded.
Philipps, 46, expressed her affection for Kimberly in the comments.
“Love you and your beautiful family❤️,” she wrote.
Kimberly replied, “You made such an impact during that time in life and brought so much laughter to that entire audience. God bless that perfection. ❤️.”
Fans also voiced their support for the mother of six, who has daughters Olivia, 14, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9, and Gwendolyn, 6, and sons Joshua, 13, and Jeremiah, 2, in the comments.

“I loved hearing how Michelle took the time to plan this and pampered you and your kids with extras like upgraded bedding in the hotel. That is fantastic! I love that she cares for you all just because you are family to James, making you family to her,” shared one fan.
“Thinking of you, dear Kimberly. Thank you for loving our Dawson (James 🥹) and being there for him, your family, and his dear friends in this photo,” another user commented. “I can’t imagine how challenging this is, but your strength is evident at this event – especially with your children present! You are truly wonderful. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Please send James our love! We adore him and are praying for all of you!! 💕”
Williams, 45, organized a special one-night live reading of the Dawson’s Creek pilot on Broadway on Monday, September 22, to raise money for F Cancer amid James’ battle with stage III colon cancer. While James, who portrayed Dawson Leery on the series, was initially set to attend, he announced just before that he would have to miss it. Lin-Manuel Miranda stepped in as his understudy.
“This is the event I was looking forward to the most ever since my angel Michelle Williams said she was putting it together back in January,” James wrote on Instagram on Sunday, September 21. “So you can imagine how heartbroken I was when two stomach viruses conspired to keep me from attending at the worst possible time. Despite all efforts, I won’t be able to be there. I won’t get to stand on that stage and thank every single soul in the theater for being there for me, and against cancer, when I needed it most.”
James ultimately surprised everyone by making a recorded video appearance at the start of the event.
“I can’t believe I’m not there. I can’t believe I don’t get to see my beautiful castmates in person,” he stated. “I just want to stand on that stage and express my gratitude to everyone in the theater for being here tonight. From the cast to the crew to all the generous souls, especially each of you — the greatest fans in the world. Thank you for coming. It’s profoundly humbling how much effort you all put in to make this night happen, and I simply want to say thank you. Thank you to every person present.”
