Boston Blue Discusses Danny’s Relocation from New York During Baez Romance

Boston Blue has finally shed light on how Donnie Wahlberg‘s character Danny will transition from New York — but what implications does this have for his relationship with Maria Baez following their experiences on Blue Bloods?

The episode airing on Friday, October 24, showcased a discussion between Danny and his son Sean (Mika Amonsen) regarding his future plans. Danny mentioned, “I’ve been reflecting on your thoughts about truly feeling like a Reagan. Being a Reagan means you have someone in the department looking out for you, but you don’t. As you said, you’re the only Reagan in Boston — but that doesn’t have to be the case.”

Danny disclosed that he has already initiated steps to relocate to Boston.

“I’m trying to express that we haven’t been as close as we should have over the past few years. Perhaps we can work on that, and I can still have your back,” he elaborated. “What I’m suggesting is that I might transfer to Boston PD.”

Boston Blue is already creating a buzz prior to its CBS premiere this fall, thanks in part to its star-studded cast — including a prominent member of the Reagan family. Blue Bloods concluded in December 2024 with an action-packed series finale, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter.

However, Sean questioned if Danny could really leave his life in New York — including his girlfriend Baez (Marisa Ramirez).

“Maria and I will figure it out. And the family is on board,” Danny responded towards the episode’s conclusion. “I’ve spoken with them, and they support my decision. So, you’re somewhat stuck with me if you want to be.”

Danny’s journey unfolded in CBS’ Blue Bloods, which aired from 2010 to 2024. The last time viewers saw Danny, he was receiving much-needed advice from his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou) concerning his personal life — particularly regarding his feelings for professional partner Maria Baez (Ramirez).

“I’ve always advised you not to bring work home,” Henry said to Danny during the 2024 series finale, noting that “the issue now is that you have no one to leave it at work for.” He implored Danny to promise he would “find that someone” after his case.

Danny was then seen asking Baez out for a date, saying, “You want to grab a pizza?”

Boston Blue, which debuted earlier this month, opened with Danny visiting Boston after Sean suffered a coma. Before leaving New York, Danny’s storyline featured a cameo by Ramirez, 48.

“You should always be concerned about long-distance,” Ramirez exclusively shared with Us Weekly prior to her cameo on Boston Blue. “You never know what will happen. Always be cautious.”

Ramirez affirmed that Baez and her daughter Elena “could easily move to Boston” — but should they?

“From my perspective, a relationship that’s too easy isn’t as entertaining. I think it’s more engaging when there are ups and downs, arguments, and reconciliations,” she remarked. “It makes the resolution much sweeter.”

According to Ramirez, viewers can anticipate “a bit of back and forth until something meaningful occurs” that leads to a better resolution.

“I hope she’ll feature in more than just one scene this entire season, right?” she joked. “Honestly, you’ll have to wait and see. But definitely stay concerned about how the long-distance situation will play out.”

Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
