Meghan Trainor Responds to Critics After 60-Pound Weight Loss: ‘I Feel Amazing’
Meghan Trainor is responding to criticism regarding her 60-pound weight loss.
The “All About That Bass” star, 31, shared with Entertainment Tonight in an interview on Thursday, November 13, that her new track, “Still Don’t Care,” addresses those who have scrutinized her appearance.
“For the first time ever, after having kids, I’m prioritizing my health more than ever. I’ve never felt better, and I look amazing, I feel great,” Trainor stated. “And that’s when people start to critique me.”
She added, “I thought, ‘Hold on, I’m taking care of myself. You don’t approve? So what am I supposed to do? I need to find a way to not let that get to me.’”
Trainor, who has sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2, with husband Daryl Sabara, has previously discussed using GLP-1 medication Mounjaro — the brand name for tirzepatide — to assist her after the birth of her second child in July 2023.
In March, the singer posted pictures from Billboard’s Women in Music event on Instagram, expressing that it was “a bit disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) centered on my body rather than my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that brought me here.”
“This is the reality of being a woman in the music industry,” she noted.
“I don’t look like I did 10 years ago. I’ve embarked on a journey to become the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me,” Trainor explained. “I’ve collaborated with a dietitian, made significant lifestyle changes, started training with a fitness coach, and yes, I utilized science and support (shout-out to Mounjaro!) to assist me post my 2nd pregnancy. I’m so happy I did because I feel wonderful.”
In an April episode of their “Workin’ On It” podcast, the couple shared their experience of taking Mounjaro together, emphasizing that they “do everything together.”
“After Riley was born, we completed the 75 Hard challenge and really excelled,” Trainor recalled. “Then, we realized that many of our friends — and even our doctors — were using Mounjaro and Ozempic.”
She further explained, “I initially thought, ‘I don’t need any of that’ and ‘I can do it on my own.’ I believed I could, but when I consulted my doctor, I asked for all the information. After researching, I felt confident.”
Sabara, 33, chimed in, “So, I decided to try it as well.”
“I also gained some [sympathy] pregnancy weight,” the actor admitted. “We’ve been on this journey for a while, learning the correct ways to approach it.”
Trainor expressed she has “no shame” about taking the GLP-1 medication, stating, “We were determined to ensure we didn’t lose muscle that we worked so hard to gain over the years. We continue to work out, eat healthily, and noticed we had less appetite.”
“I’m incredibly proud of my progress. It’s been a tough journey, and I will continue to improve, get stronger, and achieve things I never thought possible — not even hurtful comments can stop me,” Trainor concluded.
