The Hottest Monsters in TV and Film: From Vecna in Stranger Things to Ghostface in Scream
From Jamie Campbell Bower‘s captivating portrayal of Stranger Things‘ Vecna to Bill Skarsgård‘s eerie rendition of Nosferatu, it seems that there’s an unexpected influx of alluring monsters on our screens today.
Skarsgård has carved out a niche for himself as an oddly charismatic figure ever since his bloodthirsty role in Hemlock Grove. He later unsettled audiences in Us as Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the It series — and as Count Orlok in Nosferatu.
“He’s repulsive. Yet it’s undeniably sexualized,” he remarked to Esquire in 2024 regarding the role he deemed “erotic” for viewers. “It explores a sexual fetish around the monster’s power and the allure it holds over you.”
Skarsgård further noted: “Ideally, you’ll find yourself a bit drawn to it while simultaneously feeling disgusted by that attraction.”
On the small screen, Bower has left many of Us torn between his charming Mr. Whatsit and the twisted Vecna.
“I’m thankful … the entire effects team — we’re quite appreciative that you find [Vecna] attractive,” Campbell humorously commented in a 2022 Netflix featurette. “If you can’t appreciate me at my Vecna, then you don’t deserve me at my One.”
