Becca Tobin Takes a Stand Against Hilary Duff’s Husband Amid Mom Group Controversy

Glee alum Becca Tobin has reiterated her stance on Matthew Koma’s role in Ashley Tisdale’s “toxic” mom drama.

“Now let me tell you, I don’t think there’s a loser in this group, except for Hilary Duff‘s husband,” Tobin, 39, expressed during the Tuesday, January 13, episode of the “LadyGang” podcast. “I find it really distasteful when husbands engage in petty disputes, especially since Ashley didn’t name anyone.”

Tobin noted that the situation would have been different if Tisdale, 40, had mentioned specific names in her original The Cut article, but she did not.

“I really feel uncomfortable when a man interferes like this, as it seems to be just for the sake of attention,” the former Glee star added.

Ashley Tisdale French’s candid remarks about being excluded from a “toxic” mom group have garnered attention from numerous celebrities. In January 2026, Ashley — who has two daughters with husband Christopher French — stirred up discussions with an article for The Cut titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group” where she openly shared her experiences.

“LadyGang” cohost Jac Vanek remarked that Koma is known for “stirring the pot” online.

“He often inserts himself into these situations, so it’s not surprising he would do the same here as a typical husband,” Vanek added. “I wouldn’t want my husband acting that way.”

Tobin’s main concern regarding Koma is that he “attacked a woman” publicly.

“He called her self-obsessed, or something along those lines. I find that incredibly tacky,” Tobin noted. “I would be furious with my husband, regardless of my relationship with that person. He goes low, and she goes lower.”

The actress continued, “It’s really gross for a man to comment on such matters, and his remarks about her are offensive. I definitely don’t appreciate it.”

Tisdale made headlines when she disclosed her departure from her “toxic mom group” in the article published earlier this month. The former Disney Channel star did not specifically name any other celebrities from her friend group. However, it’s been speculated that Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor are among those involved. (Tisdale’s representative denied that she was referring to any A-listers.)

Hilary Duff discussed severing ties with friends shortly before the drama unfolded surrounding Ashley Tisdale French’s essay about a “toxic” mom group. On a November 2025 episode of the “Therapuss” podcast, when questioned about the difficulty of “trusting people” at a young age, Duff, 38, responded, “Yeah, there were a few individuals where…”

Duff’s husband, Koma, appeared to validate this when he responded to Tisdale’s op-ed with a social media post. He shared a parody article of his own with a caption resembling Tisdale’s.

“A mom group tell-all through a father’s eyes,” Koma wrote. “When you’re the most self-obsessed, tone-deaf person on earth, other moms tend to shift focus to their actual toddlers.”

Tobin initially criticized Koma’s meddling, writing, “Ew,” upon seeing how he ridiculed Tisdale before addressing the situation further during Tuesday’s podcast episode.

“I don’t know the intricacies of the toxic mom group,” Tobin clarified. “I can see both perspectives. This is where Ashley is currently in her life — a young mom with young children. Her world revolves around them, making her friend group pivotal. I think she just aimed to — and it’s relatable; many women go through this as they become mothers and navigate these mom groups.”

She added, “I understand her approach, but I’m puzzled as to why someone in her life didn’t inform her that the internet sleuths out there would quickly identify who she was referring to the moment the article was published.”
