Teen Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Father to Death in Front of Grandmother
A 19-year-old is in police custody after allegedly stabbing his father to death at their home.
On Wednesday, January 21, authorities responded to a neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama, where they discovered Mark Prince deceased in the front yard. He had reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds, according to CBS affiliate WKRG. It remains unclear whether the stabbing took place inside or outside the house. Mark’s son, Samuel Prince, reportedly contacted his mother, who then called 911. When the police arrived, the 19-year-old was still present at the scene and was subsequently arrested in connection with his father’s death.
Prosecutors assert that the altercation happened in the presence of the teenager’s grandmother. While authorities suspect that Samuel had premeditated the act, the motivation behind the incident is still under investigation.
Following Samuel’s arrest, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office requested a bail amount of $1 million. However, the presiding judge set the bond at $750,000 on Friday, January 23. If released, he will be subject to electronic monitoring.
Samuel’s next court appearance is set for Wednesday, January 28.
Neighbors are left bewildered by the shocking incident. One neighbor mentioned that the father and son were previously inseparable, though they hadn’t seen Samuel since he was about 12 years old, noting that he mostly “stayed in the house.”
Another neighbor described Mark, 67, as a “dear person” to them and their family.
“We love him; we will definitely miss him,” the neighbor expressed. “I would never have imagined that something like this could happen.”
While they didn’t witness the attack, a third bystander shared that their husband saw “a person” on the ground when looking out the window.
“He thought it was clothing initially, but by the time he recognized it was a person, the police had arrived, and they were all gathered around,” the neighbor recounted. “At that point, more police arrived, and it turned into a chaotic scene.”
Lucy Thompson, a resident across the street from the Prince home, likened the incident to a “nightmare.”
Both Thompson and her son, Jawuane Orange, were at home during the stabbing.
“I didn’t hear anything. When the first officer arrived, the siren wasn’t on. If you weren’t outside, you wouldn’t know anything was happening,” Orange stated to WKRG. “I was the first one outside. I saw the man lying there, and it was evident that something serious had happened… His shirt was soaked in blood. It was quite horrific.”
Thompson characterized the victim as a “quiet, sensible” individual who largely “kept to himself.”
“He would come over to chat with my husband and us; we shared laughs and conversations. If we needed help with a bike or other tools, he was right there,” she recalled. “He’ll be profoundly missed.”
