Coldplay Kiss Cam Incident: Woman Critiques Gwyneth Paltrow and Ryan Reynolds
Kristin Cabot has called out Gwyneth Paltrow and Ryan Reynolds for making light of her viral moment with Astronomer CEO Andy Byron at a Coldplay concert.
Cabot first made headlines in August 2025 when, as the head of HR at tech company Astronomer, she was seen getting comfortable on the kiss cam with Byron, who was recently separated. In the video that circulated online, Byron wrapped his arms around Cabot until they realized the cameras were on them, prompting him to duck down to avoid being seen and Cabot to turn and cover her face.
Days after the incident, Paltrow, 53, who was previously married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, appeared in a spoof advertisement as the “temporary spokesperson” for Astronomer. The company’s attempt to make a joke out of the situation—along with Paltrow’s involvement—left Cabot feeling uneasy.
“That was really disappointing to me,” Cabot shared in an interview released on Tuesday, March 17. “I felt like Gwyneth, someone whose company [Goop] is centered on empowering women and their well-being … I don’t understand why she felt the need to stir the pot and get involved in this. It just came off as really hypocritical and unnecessary.”
Cabot mentioned that Paltrow had communicated that she was under the impression that Cabot and Byron had “signed off on that commercial.” The actress clarified she “wouldn’t have participated” had she known Cabot was uncomfortable with the idea.
While Cabot acknowledged that Paltrow clarified her role, there was an awkward moment when Cabot refrained from explaining why she didn’t respond to Paltrow’s email regarding the issue.
“[Coldplay also] kinda got ruined for me, to be honest,” Cabot admitted. “I’m not much of a fan anymore.”
In another part of the interview, Cabot confronted Reynolds, 49, about his separate advertisement addressing the scandal, stating, “He produced that ad, he created it, and his wife has been dealing with something really similar over the past year.” Referencing Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni over sexual harassment, Cabot called it “astonishing” that Reynolds chose to be part of the commercial.
Us Weekly has reached out to both Paltrow and Reynolds for their comments.
Cabot previously opened up about how her life changed following the scandal. “I took responsibility, and I sacrificed my career for it. That’s the price I chose to pay,” she told The New York Times in December 2025. “I want my kids to know that you can make mistakes and really mess up. But you shouldn’t have to feel threatened for your life because of them.”
After stepping down from her role as Chief People Officer, Cabot shared that she received numerous death threats in the months following the concert.
“They were already in a fragile state, and then everything spiraled out of control,” she recounted, highlighting her family’s concern for her safety. “My kids were afraid I was going to die, and that they were going to die too.”
