Jen Affleck Expresses Desire for ‘Authentic Moments’ to be Highlighted on Mormon Wives
Jen Affleck is reaching out to her fans following the premiere of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 4, which is currently on hold due to accusations of domestic abuse against star Taylor Frankie Paul.
“When I became part of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, I had no idea what to expect, but I wanted to share my journey,” Jen, 26, posted on Instagram on Sunday, March 22. “I hoped it might inspire someone or resonate with them. I aimed for honesty about the experiences of being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including both its beauty and challenges.”
She emphasized the importance of “showing marriage, particularly marrying young, and the pressures many couples face due to cultural norms,” reflecting on her 2019 marriage to husband Zac Affleck.
“I wished to convey my feelings about entering a world so different from my own and the challenges I encountered while adjusting,” she shared. “When I appeared on DWTS postpartum, my aim was to represent mothers, showcasing our strength, resilience, and capabilities. I wanted to remind us that our dreams remain important while cherishing the extraordinary role of motherhood.”
With her message, Jen included a collection of clips and photos over the years featuring Zac and their three kids—daughters Nora, 4, and Penelope, 8 months, and son Luca, 2—along with her journey on Dancing With the Stars season 34.
“I know drama is what viewers expect from reality TV, but I wish more of the genuine moments were showcased too,” Jen continued. “The empowerment, the stories of birth, the beauty of being a mother. Since I was dancing on my countertops as a young mom, I have always aimed to be a light, helping moms and others feel acknowledged, hopeful, and inspired 🤍.”
She wrapped up with, “My current TikTok search is literally ‘who is Jen Affleck’… and honestly, same. I’m still discovering who I am, what I believe, what I desire, and where I belong. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I’m far from perfect, continually learning, but I hope my openness can serve a purpose.”
In the comments, Zac expressed his support, saying, “I love you ❤️.” Costar Mikayla Matthews also commented, “😍😍.”
Following the season’s release on Hulu, reports emerged about an ongoing “domestic assault investigation” involving an alleged altercation between Taylor and her ex, Dakota Mortensen, who is also featured in the show.
An NBC News report from Thursday, March 19, detailed how the cast met virtually with Hulu and Disney executives on March 7 to discuss how to proceed with filming amidst the investigation. They ultimately decided to halt production.
“This is a dangerous situation, and it’s incredibly sad, and we feel lost on how to handle it given that Taylor is our friend,” one cast member relayed during the call, according to audio obtained by NBC News.
The cast member expressed discomfort with filming during Taylor’s investigation. Us Weekly reached out to Hulu for a statement.
Mikayla, for her part, confirmed that the decision to pause filming was unanimous among her costars.
“It was a collective decision from all of us girls. We didn’t feel comfortable proceeding with filming given the circumstances,” Mikayla shared on her Instagram Story on Wednesday, March 18.
Taylor’s upcoming season 22 of The Bachelorette has since been canceled by ABC.
“Considering the recently surfaced video, we have decided to halt the production of the new season of The Bachelorette for now, focusing instead on supporting the family,” a spokesperson from Disney Entertainment informed Us on Thursday.
