Hollywood is in mourning over the loss of actor James Ransone. The Wire star tragically passed away by suicide on December 19, 2025, as reported by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s records obtained by Us Weekly. He was 46 years old. Following the announcement of his death, Jamie McPhee, who married Ransone in 2017 and welcomed two children with him, shared her grief.

Ransone, celebrated for his roles in The Wire and It: Chapter Two, died by suicide at the age of 46 in December 2025. He and McPhee tied the knot in September 2017 and were also parents to their 4-year-old daughter, Violet.

“I’ve told you I loved you a thousand times before, and I know I will do so again,” McPhee wrote in an Instagram post shortly after his passing. “You used to say – I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me – and you were right. Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts – you, Jack, and Violet. We are forever.”

In the wake of Ransone’s death, friends and family have rallied around McPhee with a GoFundMe campaign that has garnered over $250,000 to support her.

“This fund has been established to assist Jamie and the children as they navigate life after an unimaginable loss,” reads the project’s description. “Its goal is straightforward: to provide Jamie the time to focus solely on Jack and Violet, to protect their sense of security, and ensure they have a bright future — even amidst the absence of James’s light in their daily lives.”

The GoFundMe description emphasized that McPhee and their children were “the center of his world,” referring to Ransone.

“They loved him endlessly, and he reciprocated that love fiercely,” it shared. “Their bond was profound, joyful, and evident to anyone who witnessed it.”
