Jenna Elfman Discusses Future Plans Amid Exit Speculations
Jenna Elfman has spoken out following her new show’s suggestion of a potential departure from Tim Allen‘s Shifting Gears.
At the Fox Upfronts on Monday, May 11, Elfman, 54, exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly that her role as a series regular in The Interrogator alongside Stephen Fry would not conflict with her character Eve on the popular ABC sitcom.
“I can still appear on Shifting Gears,” she shared with Us, even hinting at the possibility of a cameo appearance by her Shifting Gears love interest. “[Having Tim Allen on] would be very entertaining. He’s hilarious, and I think it would be great to see Stephen interrogating Tim Allen [in a scene].”
It was reported earlier this month that Elfman has a new series in development. The official synopsis reveals that Fry will portray Conrad Henry, a former MI6 agent.
“When standard approaches have fallen short, Henry’s eccentric personality, high intelligence, and remarkable behavioral strategies position him as the only individual capable of unlocking the minds of the world’s most perilous criminals,” the description elaborated.
Elfman will take on the role of Woodrow, a “once-prominent CIA agent whose career was derailed by a failed mission.”
“Now working at the DIA as a handler for Henry’s team, she perceives the position as a setback — and the first move towards regaining her status,” stated her character description. “She oversees Henry’s cases, challenges him, and frequently finds herself at odds with him; while Conrad is typically several steps ahead, Woodrow rarely exceeds five. Yet, a reluctant mutual respect develops between them, creating an intriguing, odd-couple dynamic.”
The actress’s new role prompted speculation about her future on ABC’s Shifting Gears. Although she had been anticipated to return for season 3 after previously featuring in nine episodes while also filming AMC’s Dark Winds.
Elfman previously shared her thoughts with Us about her return to the ABC hit.
“I absolutely love being part of the show. The entire team is fantastic, and I admire the showrunner. Honestly, I feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop because it’s just that great. I can’t wait for everyone to see it,” she expressed in September 2025. “The writing this year has taken me by surprise. Each character is getting wonderfully tailored stories. The comedy is genuinely hilarious; we can’t stop laughing on set.”
Elfman added, “As both a performer and a member of this industry, I’m astounded by the quality of the comedy in this season. I’m really excited for viewers at home; they’re going to enjoy a fantastic time laughing with their families.”
Shifting Gears is currently available for streaming on Hulu, while The Interrogator will premiere on Fox.
