Sepideh Moafi from The Pitt Discusses Her Return Amid Cast Departures

The Pitt‘s Sepideh Moafi discussed her potential return for season 3 amidst cast departures and rumors of feuds.

Moafi, 40, who portrays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, shared with Gold Derby on Thursday, June 11, that her character will have one of several “staggered entrances,” adding, “I don’t know anything yet.”

The actress expressed her enthusiasm for what lies ahead.

“I have no doubt that like a phoenix from the ashes, she’ll rise,” Moafi remarked about her pride in playing the role.

Moafi mentioned she has received messages not only from the healthcare community but also from many individuals with disabilities or diverse identities from marginalized groups who feel underrepresented.

She elaborated: “I believe this character has brought visibility to various types of people. I’m incredibly grateful for her existence. I take great pride in embodying her and bringing her story to life. What struck me the most was the number of individuals with health issues—whether chronic illness, disease, or disability—who reached out, expressing how much seeing her navigate her condition and the vulnerability she shows has made them feel acknowledged.”

Moafi joined the popular HBO Max series in season 2 as Dr. Al-Hashimi. Following her character’s conflict with Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby in the finale, some fans speculated on social media if the show drew from real-life tensions.

“We’re really great colleagues,” Moafi told Variety in May. “Noah and I have always had a positive working relationship, which is why it felt safe to explore the darker, grittier aspects in episode 15, especially since we spent our downtime joking around and laughing.”

All good things must come to an end, even in television. Over the years, many actors have unexpectedly departed their roles, while others have been removed from series without much warning. For example, Anna Faris announced in September 2020 that she would be leaving CBS’ Mom after playing the lead character […]

Moafi dismissed any suggestions of discord with Wyle, 54.

“That is completely false—there’s no personal conflict or rivalry between us, at least to my knowledge,” she stated. “You can certainly ask Noah, but I’m unaware of any such issues.”

Moafi’s arrival in The Pitt cast followed Tracy Ifeachor‘s unexpected exit. After Ifeachor’s departure as Heather Collins in season 2, a source informed Us Weekly in July 2025 that it was always intended for her character—a fourth-year resident—to transition out and become a practicing doctor in future seasons of the show.

The same rationale applied when it was announced that Supriya Ganesh would not be returning as Dr. Samira Mohan in season 3.

“It’s simply the nature of the show. Unfortunately, as it is with the medical profession, you come in, learn, and then move on, and we aim to portray that process authentically,” executive producer R. Scott Gemmill recently elaborated to Us Weekly. “So, we will rotate our cast. I believe it provides excellent opportunities for everyone involved, and that’s the best we can strive for.”
