Landman Casts Michael Kelly from Lioness During Season 3 Delays
As Landman gears up to kick off production for season 3, the popular series is set to welcome a new character, portrayed by an actor from the Lioness cast.
On Wednesday, September 9, Paramount+ announced that Michael Kelly is joining season 3 of Landman. The 57-year-old actor, known for his role as Byron on Lioness, will take on the role of William Crockett, described as “the leader of the largest oil management firm in the world.” According to the character description, William is “a titan of industry whose presence embodies efficiency and wealth.”
In July, Kelly expressed his admiration for Landman in an interview with Us, stating, “I f***ing love Landman. I adore Billy Bob Thornton. I love Sam [Elliott]. It’s such an entertaining show. My wife [Karyn Kelly] and I truly enjoy it.”
Kelly shared his enthusiasm about collaborating with Taylor Sheridan and praised his work in the industry.
“Working with Taylor Sheridan is a dream come true. I regard him as one of the finest writers ever. Nobody else has achieved what he is doing right now,” he remarked. “It’s unprecedented to have six hit TV shows all at once. I feel extremely lucky to collaborate with one of the greatest in the field.”
Kelly described his experience on Lioness as “a freaking dream,” adding, “And then I get to partake in all that fun cowboy stuff. I got to ride horses and even participate in a horseback cutting competition. I had never done that before. They told me to go train, so I did, working with a horse trainer to learn the ropes. Being in Fort Worth added to the joy, and I feel incredibly grateful to be part of Taylor’s world.”
Inspired by the “Boomtown” podcast, Landman is Sheridan’s latest success, joining the ranks of Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Lioness. The show premiered Thornton as a corporate fixer involved with an oil titan in a high-stakes drama set in West Texas.
Landman debuted in November 2024, following filming that began in Texas earlier that year. Filming for season 2 commenced in April 2025 and concluded in August, with episodes airing in November 2025.
However, season 3 has faced several delays. Originally set to start shooting in May, production was postponed by three months. There has been another delay, with a new filming start date potentially set for late September.
“I’ve only read one script so far. Taylor is currently writing season 2,” James Jordan exclusively told Us last month. “What I can share is that it’s going to be an incredible journey.”
Jordan, 47, hinted there wouldn’t be a time jump in the narrative.
“We will pick up precisely where we left off, and I’m just as eager as you are to see how the story unfolds. We start filming in about three weeks and are determined to deliver an excellent new season for our audience,” he added.
While Jordan lacked specific insights, he mused about a possible release timeline, stating, “Given the modern editing techniques, the turnaround is incredibly fast. We might see the show back on the air before the year ends. I sincerely hope so. That Thanksgiving to year-end window has suited Landman perfectly in the past two seasons.”
He concluded, “Hopefully, we’ll be back to work soon and get the story out for our viewers because we love telling it and appreciate the support from fans. It’s such a blast.”
