Christy Carlson Romano Reportedly Injured in the Eye on Her Husband’s Birthday

Christy Carlson Romano is recovering after being accidentally shot in the eye during her husband’s birthday celebration.

The 40-year-old actress shared in a video on Instagram that the incident occurred on Friday, February 7, while she was participating in a clay pigeon shooting activity in Texas for her husband Brendan Rooney‘s birthday.

“I got shot in the eye. It was quite an experience,” she recounted, visibly showcasing the bruising resulting from the incident. While she mentioned that she is now “safe,” she disclosed that there are still bullet fragments lodged in her eye and forehead.

“I’m incredibly thankful for the first responders,” she expressed in the video. “They are true superheroes who come to our aid during our most vulnerable moments.” She also acknowledged the staff at St. David’s Health in Austin for their support.

“Tonight, my situation looks really rough,” Romano said, pointing to her face. “But, I can say I was shot in the face and lived to tell about it.” She concluded with a message: “Appreciate each day.”

In her post’s caption, Romano shared that her birthday “gift” to her husband was to enjoy clay pigeon shooting together. “There was another party present, and they fired their shot unsafely in the wrong direction, hitting me in the face,” she explained, adding that Rooney “instantly assessed the situation and rushed me to the hospital” following the incident.

“I was struck in five areas; one shot was less than an inch away from hitting my right eye directly,” her caption continued. “Unfortunately, a fragment is currently lodged behind my eye, and it’s too risky to remove it surgically right now. My doctors will keep an eye on me (I can see normally at this point).”

“After everything that happened, all that comes to mind is how grateful I am to be alive. I cherish my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I felt my life flash before my eyes, and I urge you all to hug your loved ones whenever you can. Life can change in a heartbeat. 🙏.”

Many followers flocked to the comments section to offer their best wishes to Romano. Actress Candace Cameron Bure wrote, “Whoa- I’m so sorry this happened! What a scary situation. I’m so glad you’re safe ❤️‍🩹,” while Bachelor in Paradise alum Jade Roper Tolbert commented, “Oh my goodness!! I’m so relieved you are safe. How terrifying. ❤️”

Rooney also took to his wife’s post, praising her courage throughout the ordeal. “You are the strongest, most courageous, and incredible woman I’ve ever known. I am so grateful you are okay,” the film producer wrote. “I am thankful you are the mother to our children. I can’t imagine life without you. I love you more than anything. 🙏.”
