Mindy Kaling’s Thoughts on Her Experience with Meghan Markle’s Netflix Series
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has captured attention with her new Netflix lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” particularly following a moment that has since gone viral featuring special guest Mindy Kaling.
The former “Office” actress visits Meghan in the second episode of the series, which debuted on March 4.
Throughout their time together, Kaling frequently refers to the former “Suits” actress as “Meghan Markle,” even joking, “I don’t think anyone in the world knows that Meghan Markle has eaten Jack in the Box and loves it.”

This is when the duchess gently corrects her friend, informing her that she, along with her husband Prince Harry and their two children — Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3 — all go by the surname Sussex.
“It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now,” she clarifies.
Meghan expresses to Kaling that sharing the Sussex name with Archie and Lilibet feels “meaningful” — a name given to them by her late grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, when they married in 2018.

“You have kids and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children’ and that feels so, I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just feels so much. This is our family name, our little family name,” she adds.
“Now I know. And I love it,” Kaling responds.
While Kaling didn’t specifically mention the name mix-up, the show creator discussed on “The View” on March 6 the spotlight her appearance on “With Love, Meghan” has received.
“I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan, it becomes big news,” Kaling noted.
“We were making sandwiches, then they zoom in on my face on TikTok, and they’ll be like, ‘Look at this emotion you felt,’ and I honestly don’t even recall it because we filmed it about nine months ago.”
Overall, Kaling found the experience enjoyable.
“I loved my time with Meghan,” she shared. “I’m also like, ‘Let her promote her show, and I’ll chat about (Kaling’s new show) ‘Running Point.’ It was wonderful, and it’s really intriguing to see the reaction.”
Kaling previously revealed how Meghan invited her to be part of “With Love, Meghan.”
“I believe I was two months postpartum when (Meghan) texted me and asked, ‘Do you want to be in my show?’” Mindy reminisced on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet in January.
“When you hang out with Meghan, you know the food is going to be good,” Mindy continued. “I thought, ‘I’ll go to Montecito, have you cook for me, and visit your garden.’ And that’s what we did.”
While at the Globes, Mindy also told Deadline that the duchess’s cooking “unsurprisingly sort of blew me away” and she had heard that Harry was “actually a pretty good cook,” too.
“He knows his way around a kitchen,” Mindy remarked.
