Parker Posey Makes Craig Melvin Laugh with ‘White Lotus’ Accent on TODAY Show
Parker Posey’s Southern drawl in Season Three of “The White Lotus” has left many in stitches — including TODAY’s Craig Melvin.
Posey, who plays Victoria Ratliff on the acclaimed HBO series, showcased her favorite phrases with her distinctive Southern accent during her TODAY appearance on March 5, causing Craig to erupt in laughter mid-conversation.
“It all begins with the dialogue. There are such amusing words like, I adore ‘tsunami!'” Posey exclaimed, emphasizing her North Carolina accent, before also attempting to pronounce “Buddhism.”

Craig, a South Carolina native, couldn’t hold back his laughter, with several crew members also chuckling off-camera.
Posey honed her accent while working on films like “Best in Show” alongside director Christopher Guest, which easily translated into lines like, “Piper, no!” when addressing her daughter on “The White Lotus.”
“We just leaned into that, and it started to flourish,” she noted.
“I adore Southern female characters … so being able to embody this dramatic yet humorous role is just so juicy and enjoyable. Plus, Mike White crafted it so beautifully,” Posey added.
She mentioned watching the Bravo reality series “Southern Charm” to prepare for her character, and her take on a Durham, North Carolina accent has taken the internet by storm.
“This is just — just a glimpse of the feedback,” Craig stated while reading social media reactions on TODAY. “‘Parker Posey’s accent is, without a doubt, one of the highlights of ‘The White Lotus.’ ‘The voice that Parker Posey does in ‘White Lotus’ deserves to be in the Louvre.’
“They want to exhibit the accent!” he declared.
Posey then took the opportunity to teach Craig a traditional Thai greeting she learned while living in Thailand for seven months shooting the show’s third season, before sharing her experience reading the script for Season Three for the first time.
“I was completely captivated, and when I reached the eighth episode, I lost track of who had died,” she said, referring to the show’s finale. “It was such a rush and so intense that I forgot what transpired.”
“Because the characters are written so well, I genuinely cared about them,” she added. “I’m not a fan of violence. I didn’t want anyone to perish, but, well, it happens.”

While the Season Three finale is set for April 6, an exclusive clip from the upcoming fourth episode was shown on TODAY, potentially offering some hints about the plot.
In the clip, Posey’s character, Victoria, is seen with her husband, Tim, played by Jason Isaacs, and her daughter, Piper, portrayed by Sarah Catherine Hook, as they review menus and discuss a recent event.
“Well, that was stressful,” Victoria chuckles. “I thought I was going to have a grand mal seizure. What was that? It was — it was a convention for con artists and tax evaders.”
Piper retorts: “I’m sure you all cheat on your taxes, Mom.”
“Well, not so much that we have to leave the country,” replies Victoria.
The underlying issue, of course, is that Victoria’s husband is indeed facing financial troubles: His business partner Kenny is under investigation by the feds for money laundering in Brunei, and Kenny is convinced Tim is implicated as well.
However, the rest of the Ratliff family remains oblivious to the FBI’s warrant to search Tim’s office, as Tim has ensured that the family secures their mobile devices in a bag to maintain mindfulness and presence at the resort in Thailand.
The complete fallout from the situation remains unknown, keeping fans on edge ahead of the fourth episode airing on Sunday, March 9.
One individual who won’t be tuning in? Posey.
“I haven’t watched it — I lived it, and I cherished it,” she shared with Craig. “We had a fantastic time in Thailand.”
Posey mentioned that she typically doesn’t watch her own work but plans to view her season of “The White Lotus” after some time has passed.
“I’ll catch it in the summer, when there’s a brief reprieve,” she said.
