O.J. Simpson’s Estate Denies Kim Kardashian’s Offer for Late Father’s Bible
LaVergne informed the outlet that he refused the offer due to existing contracts with the court to auction the Bible, indicating that contesting the contract would incur higher costs than Kim’s offer for the item.
“The amount is why I had no choice; spending $15,000 of estate money — why would I incur $15,000 in legal fees — to sell it to Kim for $15,000?” LaVergne explained to People. “That’s a zero-sum game. That’s a poor business strategy. If Kim had offered $150,000, we would’ve pursued court approval outside of the auction.”
Nonetheless, Kim may still have an opportunity to acquire the Bible, which currently has a leading bid of just under $10,000.
“Kim can place a bid online,” LaVergne added. “She may even win it for less than 15 grand, so who knows.”
Kardashian Sr. reportedly penned a handwritten message in the Bible, dated June 18, 1994, just a day after Simpson’s arrest on June 17.
“O.J., this book will help,” the note reads. “God loves and will communicate with you through His words. Read this book every day. God has a specific plan for your life. You are His child, and He will use you again. I love you, and God loves you.”
LaVergne is the executor responsible for liquidating Simpson’s assets and personal belongings to settle outstanding debts.
The Bible, which holds sentimental significance for the Kardashians, is not the only item being auctioned.
Bidding for personal items opened on Wednesday, March 13, via Goldin Auctions. In addition to the Bible, a signed framed photo of Simpson with former U.S. president Bill Clinton is also available.
Other auction items include memorabilia from Simpson’s professional NFL career prior to the deaths of Brown and Goldman, such as a replica of Simpson’s 1968 Heisman Trophy. Bidders can also compete for a trophy awarded to him for being the first NFL player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season in 1973.
