Kameron Marlowe Confirms His Brand is Sad Songs, Even Amidst Engagement
Kameron Marlowe is joyfully engaged, but crafting tunes about heartbreak is his “brand,” and he embraces it fully.
“I usually write love songs. To be honest, I don’t often enjoy listening to them,” Marlowe, 26, shared exclusively with Us Weekly while promoting his upcoming single “Seventeen,” set to release on Friday, May 30.
The country artist hinted that being engaged to Meagan Bennington means “there’s gonna be love songs coming out.” He mentioned that writing those kinds of songs is “easier” due to his own romantic experience.
“Meagan is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. I’m incredibly grateful for her,” he expressed, admitting, “I’ll probably still write some sad songs—maybe from other people’s viewpoints.”
Marlowe, who appeared on season 15 of The Voice, has released three studio albums thus far. His latest project, Sad Songs for the Soul, launched in February, affirming his reputation as a heartbreak specialist with tracks like “Hello Whiskey” and “Here Lies the Fool.”
When asked if sad songs are his “brand,” Marlowe responded to Us, “It definitely has been.”
Even while in a healthy relationship—having gotten engaged in April 2023—Marlowe said he enjoys singing about darker themes during his performances.
“I believe that those who attend my shows and listen to my music find solace in those songs and that motivates me,” he shared. “If my music can become something they can hold onto, then that’s my hope for them.”
However, Marlowe’s upcoming single “Seventeen” marks a shift from the somber tunes he’s been producing lately. This track is upbeat and promises to whisk listeners back to their teenage years, relishing in carefree summer drives.
“‘Seventeen’ was a song I really needed to write since it’s been a decade since I was 17, which is wild to think about,” Marlowe revealed to Us. “I remember how joyous life felt back then and how often I took it for granted.”
He reflected on the writing process, thinking, “‘Wouldn’t it be nice to revisit those times and escape the responsibilities I have now?’ But it’s a fun song everyone can relate to.”
The artist sings, “for every bad decision, there’s a good memory,” draw inspiration from his teenage escapades of sneaking out and getting caught.
“I always had the best experiences sneaking out,” Marlowe chuckled. “Even if I got grounded for a month, it was always worth it.”
Marlowe hinted that “Seventeen” represents a “new chapter” in his music, suggesting that his sound will “always” evolve.
“I hope the project I’m currently working on will feature more fun, uplifting tracks rather than just sad ones,” he mentioned, recognizing that he doesn’t intend to abandon his heartbreak signature style. “I’m always going to write sad songs. That reflects who I am and the types of songs I typically write,” Marlowe confirmed.
He added, “Musically, I’m quite diverse. I have numerous influences and passions, so I’ll strive to explore different styles and ensure my music varies.”
