A Comprehensive List of Everyone Joe Has Killed in ‘You’
Caution: Spoilers for “You” Season 5 ahead.
The Netflix psychological thriller “You” has reached its gripping conclusion with the fifth and final season.
Starring Penn Badgley, the show delves into the life of Joe Goldberg, a dangerously charismatic book lover who becomes obsessively infatuated with aspiring writer Guinevere Beck.
Throughout these five seasons, Joe has resorted to extreme and lethal actions in pursuit of his version of happiness with Beck, as well as other women who captivate him. While many don’t survive, some, like Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), do make it through.
Season 5 continues this trend. Prior to its release, Badgley contemplated Joe’s impressive body count.
“It’s in the teens, possibly late teens,” Badgley shared with TODAY.com. “And maybe this season, does it reach the (twenties)? Does he actually kill that many people?”
The answer is a resounding yes.

In the fifth season, Joe not only kills individuals like Buffalo Bob Cain (Michael Dempsey), but he also manipulates others into committing murder, such as Maddie, who kills her twin sister Reagan (both played by Anna Camp).
“He’s sort of like Charles Manson,” Badgley muses, reflecting on the exact tally of Joe’s kills. “The ironic thing is that he doesn’t kill that many people.”
“Perhaps there’s hope for us yet,” he jokes, referencing the women who believed they could change Joe. “Yeah, the body count’s under 20.”
At one point, Maddie tells Joe, “You always have a good reason (to kill).” Badgley quips, “He certainly believes he does.”
Badgley has contemplated Joe’s character and the implications of being “the romantic protector.”
“To be a protector, there needs to be a threat that requires protection,” he states. “If you’re protecting, there must be someone vulnerable.”
And in Joe’s perspective, there’s always someone in need of saving.
