A Taste Test: Four Sixes Whiskey from Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan
Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan embraces the cowboy lifestyle, with his latest project ideally suited for late-night gatherings in the bunkhouse.
Sheridan, 54, and his Four Sixes Ranch have teamed up with the spirits company Sazerac to launch the first spirits under the ranch’s name: Four Sixes Whiskey and Four Sixes Vodka. (Fans might recall the vodka’s brief appearance in episode 10 of Yellowstone‘s fifth season.)
The whiskey is described as having tasting notes of caramel, oak, vanilla, fruit, and “a hint of toasted marshmallow,” while the vodka is distilled seven times. Sheridan, who also created the Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923, personally selected the spirits to embody the “artistry that is integral to a lifestyle centered around horseback riding.”
In the most recent edition of We Tried It, Us Weekly Deputy Editor Sarah Hearon and Music Editor Eliza Thompson evaluated both Four Sixes Whiskey and Four Sixes Vodka to determine if they would suit ranch life—or at least a marathon of 1923 before the arrival of season 2.

Both Sarah and Eliza agreed that the vodka meets the brand’s slogan of “ranch-tested, cowboy-approved,” showcasing a smooth finish that pairs nicely in a martini.
However, the whiskey takes the spotlight. “This is perfect for enjoying after some roping and barrel racing,” Sarah remarked. “It’s incredibly smooth.”
Though it’s not a bourbon, it does exhibit a certain sweetness at the finish. “It has a flavor profile reminiscent of Irish whiskey—but smoother,” Eliza observed.

As for which characters in the Yellowstone cosmos would enjoy Four Sixes Whiskey and Vodka, Sarah and Eliza speculated. Beth Dutton might gladly swap her usual Tito’s for Four Sixes, while her husband, Rip Wheeler, would likely opt for the whiskey. Meanwhile, Jimmy, who works at the Four Sixes? He might claim to be shooting whiskey, but his fellow ranch hands know he’s all about the vodka cran.
Four Sixes Whiskey and Four Sixes Vodka can currently be found at retailers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Nevada, with a nationwide release planned later this year.
Season 2 of 1923 premieres on Paramount+ on Sunday, February 23.
