ABC’s David Muir Adjusts His Coat While Covering LA Wildfires
David Muir is under fire for adjusting his flame-retardant jacket.
ABC news anchor Muir, 51, has drawn criticism from fans after he appeared to use clothespins to cinch his waist while covering the catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 8.
As Muir turned to survey the devastation behind him during his broadcast, many viewers spotted the clothespins securing the back of his coat. Social media users quickly voiced their opinions about Muir’s fitted appearance on X.
“People are losing everything they own, no one cares how you look,” one user commented, while another remarked, “David Muir cares more about his look than the fires.” A third person concurred, stating, “California is ablaze, and he doesn’t want his jacket to appear baggy on camera. Get your priorities straight!”

While some viewers criticized Muir for focusing on his appearance amid a natural disaster, others defended the World News Tonight host. “Leave David Muir and his clothespin fire jacket alone,” one wrote. “A little waist snatching never harmed anyone.”
Another fan also supported Muir’s choice, saying, “Leave David Muir ALONEEEEEEEE. He probably used clothespins because the winds are crazy there. Let him look dapper.”
The wildfires have impacted numerous Hollywood stars, including Mandy Moore, Anna Faris, Eugene Levy, Paris Hilton, and more.
Many celebrities have spoken out about the fires, including Chrissy Teigen, who evacuated to a hotel with her husband John Legend and their four children: Luna, 8, Miles, 6, Esti, 23 months, and Wren, 18 months.
Sandra Lee opened up about her evacuation on social media, expressing her fear on Wednesday, stating, “4 dogs, 4 kids, and a bearded dragon walk into a hotel,” she captioned the video.
