Achieve Jenna Ortega’s Red Carpet Makeup Look at Home

If you’re seeking glam inspiration for your upcoming night out, look no further than Jenna Ortega’s beauty look from the Death of a Unicorn screening in New York City on March 11; it’s full of fabulous ideas.

Her striking yet subtly sparkling eye makeup stole the spotlight on the red carpet. Naturally, we had to get the inside scoop from the genius behind it, Vincent Oquendo. In an exclusive chat with Us Weekly, he revealed all the details and the exact products he utilized on the actress.

“When I presented Jenna with the idea of combining black eyeliner with sparkle on top, she immediately felt it resembled the skin of the unicorn from the film and got really excited,” the celebrity makeup artist shared with Us about the inspiration behind the look.

The aesthetic, which Oquendo described as “East Village punk meets a unicorn,” offers a moody yet glamorous vibe that is surprisingly easy to replicate. “I’m a huge fan of negative space, so I left some areas of the eye makeup with just the natural skin tone,” Oquendo noted.

To achieve the “double-winged eyeliner” effect, he started with the Dior’s Diorshow On Stage Crayon in #099 Black. He applied this smudge-proof formula along the upper lash line, creating a classic winged eyeliner look. Following that, he glided the pencil along the bottom lash line to form the additional “double” wing.

As he reminded Us: It’s crucial to apply the eyeliner along the bottom waterline, just like he did for Ortega. “This technique is the perfect way to achieve a punk-inspired look that flatters nearly every eye shape,” Oquendo explained.

Next, he chose the Diorshow 5 Couleurs in #073 Pied-de-Poule and swept the “sparkly black shade” over the eyeliner, using cotton swabs with thin, precise tips to “carve into it.” Layering the eyeshadow atop the black eyeliner added just the right amount of shimmer while maintaining that “feathered yet precise double eyeliner look.” To finish, he highlighted Ortega’s lashes with Dior’s Diorshow Mascara in #090 Black.

Follow his lead for an easy yet impactful way to ensure all eyes are on you the next time you decide to go all out.
