Actor Hero Fiennes-Tiffin Eager to Reprise Role in ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot
Actor and producer Hero Fiennes-Tiffin is eager to return to Hogwarts.
“I would be 100 percent open to reprising any role in the HBO Harry Potter series,” Fiennes-Tiffin, 27, told Us Weekly exclusively on Wednesday, March 5, during the premiere of Picture This at Neuehouse Madison Square in New York City.
“Just tell them to,” he added, mimicking a “call me” gesture with his hand.
Having portrayed a young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Fiennes-Tiffin expressed that if he’s invited back for the much-anticipated reboot, he can’t picture himself as “anyone else” but He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
“I don’t think I could be anyone else,” he stated. “Not only am I Team Tom Riddle, I’m Team Slytherin too. If it’s anyone else, I believe it has to be Team Slytherin. My name is in the hat, and I’m Slytherin ’til I die.”
In April 2023, at a Warner Bros. Discovery presentation, the network announced it was moving ahead with a TV reboot of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels-turned-movie series for its streaming service, Max. The “decade-long series,” the network indicated, will feature an entirely new cast.
“Max’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of my books means a lot to me, and I’m excited to be a part of this new adaptation which will provide a level of depth and detail only achievable through a long-form television series,” Rowling, who has faced significant criticism over the years for her transphobic remarks, stated at that time.
Reflecting on his time filming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Fiennes-Tiffin shares that his “coolest memory” was simply “chilling with Michael Gambon.”
“I was fortunate to work with him, and he’s just a really cool guy,” Fiennes-Tiffin shared with Us. “I was about 9 or 10 then, and we would just joke around constantly. Plus, he has enormous hands. I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but they’re just huge. It’s the little things like that which stick with you as a kid.”
The actor went on to express that collaborating with Gambon, who portrayed Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, was “a true dream,” noting that Gambon was also “wonderful with kids.”
“I’m sure many actors, directors, producers, everyone, are used to working with children,” he continued. “I think I turned 11 — I was 10 and turned 11 — while we were filming. They just know how to keep things enjoyable and make it feel less like work, and Michael Gambon excelled at that. I’ll always be very thankful for the time spent sharing the screen with him.”
In February, John Lithgow confirmed reports that he will take over the role of Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Max series.
“Well, it came as a total surprise to me,” Lithgow, 79, mentioned in an interview with ScreenRant at that time. “I just got the call while attending the Sundance Film Festival for another film, and it was not an easy decision, as it’s going to define the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid.”
Similar to Lithgow, Fiennes-Tiffin is also thoughtful about his career trajectory, telling Us that he has enjoyed “all the roles I’ve taken on,” especially his character in Picture This.
“I believe it’s the first outright romantic comedy I’ve participated in,” he shared. “It’s been an absolute delight. Yet, I’m always quite eager to tackle something different from the last. So I don’t think I’m rushing to take on another rom-com right away, but I’m sure in a couple of jobs down the line, I will miss it and want to do another rom-com eventually.”
