Alex Cooper’s Docuseries Highlights Drama with Dave Portnoy and ‘Call Her Daddy’
Alex Cooper is being candid about her remarkable journey in the forthcoming Call Her Alex docuseries.
At just 30, Cooper launched the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2018 with Barstool Sports. After significant drama (which we’ll delve into shortly), she parted ways with her former boss, Dave Portnoy, who is now preparing to feature in Call Her Alex.
“When I started, podcasting was largely a male-dominated arena,” Portnoy, 48, remarked in the Call Her Alex trailer, released on Tuesday, June 3. (Fellow former Barstool colleague Kevin Clancy will also be appearing in the docuseries.)
During the initial two years of “Call Her Daddy,” Cooper worked alongside her former cohost Sofia Franklyn.
“It was the biggest podcast globally,” Cooper exclaimed in the trailer. “But everything fell apart.”
To summarize, Cooper and Franklyn signed a three-year agreement with Barstool, which included yearly salary increases. After the podcast’s success, they both received higher pay, with Cooper getting an additional raise for her role in the podcast’s production. Allegedly, Franklyn’s then-boyfriend began seeking out other networks for the show. This resulted in Portnoy’s infamous “rooftop meeting” with the two women, offering them $500,000 and ownership of the show. Cooper accepted the offer, but Franklyn declined. Cooper remained with Barstool until June 2021 and is now associated with SiriusXM.
The transition of “Call Her Daddy” into Cooper’s status as a “single father” seems set to be a prominent theme in the two-part docuseries, which will premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, June 10.

“If my vulnerability helps others feel connected and understood, then I’m fulfilling my purpose,” Cooper claimed in the trailer. “We aim to empower women. We want them to feel acknowledged and respected. I have so much more to accomplish, and this is just the beginning.”
In addition to her personal journey, fans will get an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into her 2024 Unwell Tour. (Cooper’s parents will also make appearances in the docuseries.)
“I tend to obsess over ensuring that everything sounds and looks flawless, yet it’s the imperfections that reflect who I truly am,” Cooper remarked in the trailer.
Cooper echoed similar feelings in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly back in December 2024, just before the launch of her Unwell Hydration.
“I want to contribute to the dialogue,” she expressed. “I encourage all women to pursue their ambitions, even if those roles have traditionally been held by men.”
