Always Sunny and Abbott Elementary Casts Unite for Super Bowl Celebrations
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary are keeping the crossover excitement alive at the Super Bowl!
Cast members from Always Sunny, real-life couple Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, posted a photo on X with Abbott’s Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams on Saturday, February 8. The group gathered in New Orleans to rally for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are set to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, February 9.
This isn’t the first instance of an Eagles fandom crossover. Back in November 2024, Brunson and McElhenney were seen cheering for the Eagles in a promotional video for both Always Sunny and Abbott.
The casts for both series have recently participated in the first of two crossover episodes. Abbott star Lisa Ann Walter exclusively shared with Us Weekly insights about the two-episode arc in December 2024.
“When they come on set, there’s a lot of silliness and antics,” she revealed at the time. “They are much less bound by the script, which leads to a lot of fun moments. It’s going to be a blast.”
“I truly enjoyed chatting with all of them outside their roles,” she added. “Whenever we have guest stars, I love learning about their stories, whether they are globally recognized or not—especially with them, it was a lot about where their kids attend school.”
Walter also mentioned that Brunson, who is the star and creator of the series, doesn’t always share much about the future of the characters’ storylines.
“Quinta keeps it very close to the vest,” she said. “Sometimes she’ll come up to us at events and say, ‘You’re going to be thrilled with this upcoming storyline for your character… Oh wait, I can’t tell you!’”
Both Abbott and Always Sunny are set in Philadelphia. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia debuted in 2005, following a group of egocentric friends and bar owners, while Abbott Elementary, which premiered in 2021, narrates the experiences of teachers and students at the fictional school of the same name.
In January, several cast members from It’s Always Sunny, including Charlie Day and Danny DeVito, along with McElhenney and Olson, collaborated with Abbott for a special episode. The Abbott cast is also expected to make an appearance on Sunny soon.
In an interview with Us in October 2024, Brunson expressed her enthusiasm for the crossover concept, calling it “very cool.”
“I believe it will be a treat for the audiences of both shows,” she remarked. “It’ll be thrilling for viewers who enjoy one show or the other—or both!”
