Ansel Elgort Announces Birth of His First Child, Shares Adorable Photo of His Son
Ansel Elgort has discreetly welcomed his first child, a son, after taking a break from public life.
“Fatherhood is exhilarating, exhausting—it’s everything and more,” Elgort, 31, captioned in an Instagram post on Tuesday, February 10. “The present feels more vibrant, and the future seems brighter.”
The actor gently held his son, snugly wrapped in what looked like a fleece swaddle, in a black-and-white photo shared alongside the birth announcement. Elgort chose not to disclose his son’s name.
“He keeps us awake all night, yet I’ve never felt more energized during the day. His transitions from crying to laughter express emotions so freely, and it encourages me to do the same,” Elgort continued in his caption. “I wanted to keep this moment sacred for ourselves, but now I feel compelled to share this joy as it is the brightest happiness I’ve ever experienced. I hope it brings you joy as well.”
Elgort also posted a video of himself playing guitar while his son was gently rocked in a baby carrier.
Nearly a month before Elgort confirmed the news, multiple outlets captured images of him walking in New York City with a baby strapped to his chest. A source informed People that the baby was indeed Elgort’s.
Elgort has maintained a low profile over the years following allegations of sexual assault, making only rare public appearances. He recently starred in two seasons of the HBO series Tokyo Vice, which aired from 2022 to 2024.
In June 2020, a woman accused Elgort via X of assaulting her in 2014, the day after her 17th birthday. She claimed he forced himself on her without asking if she wanted to stop, knowing it was her first experience. She stated she hadn’t reported the incident at the time because he expressed concern that it would “ruin his career.”
“Years later, I suffer from PTSD and panic attacks, and I attend therapy,” she continued. “I just want to heal and assure other girls who have faced similar situations that they are not alone. It’s challenging for me to share my story, but I believe it’s necessary.”
Elgort addressed the allegations on social media.
“I was disturbed to see the social media posts about me circulating in the last 24 hours,” he disclosed on Instagram, claiming the alleged victim’s recounting was “simply not what occurred.”
“I have never and would never assault anyone,” he continued, explaining that their relationship in 2014 was “brief, consensual, and legal.”
“Unfortunately, I did not manage the breakup well. I ceased communication with her, which was immature and cruel,” he acknowledged. “I realize this late apology doesn’t excuse my unacceptable behavior for disappearing.”
He concluded his statement with: “Reflecting on my actions makes me feel disgusted and deeply ashamed. I am genuinely sorry. I understand I must continually reflect, learn, and cultivate empathy.”
