Ashley from Love Is Blind Claims Alex’s ‘Lies’ Were Major Red Flags
Love Is Blind season 10 participant Ashley Carpenter chose not to marry her fiancé Alex Henderson after recognizing significant “red flags.”
“It’s not just about the timeline [of his prior relationships],” Ashley, 34, told Us Weekly exclusively before the Wednesday, March 11, reunion was released on Netflix. “It was so much deeper than that. It might appear to be a small lie, but during our time in the pods — though they edited my portrayal in a specific way — he kind of created this fantasy for me.”
Ashley and Alex, 31, formed a connection without seeing each other in the Love Is Blind season 10 pods, filmed in February 2025 and broadcast earlier this year.
“[His fantasy was] that we lived in Cleveland together, frequented the same restaurants, went to the same gym, yet somehow never crossed paths,” Ashley recounted. “He even mentioned The Alchemist during our engagement, saying, ‘Our treasure was basically right in front of us,’ like the book. In that moment in the pods, I thought, ‘Wow, this is a romance.’”
As soon as Ashley accepted Alex’s proposal and they met face-to-face, she began to see a change.
“Then, you start to uncover things, like, ‘Well, maybe he wasn’t actually in Cleveland,’” she noted, referencing Alex’s tendency to move around the U.S. and New Zealand. “This isn’t the love story fantasy I envisioned; he was living with his ex in Austin. They might not be huge lies, but the beautiful image and fantasy I had built from his stories turned out to be all false.”
Ashley remarked, “I am marrying this individual, so if we are establishing a foundation for marriage based on potentially minor white lies, that’s not what I seek.”
Ashley ultimately came to understand that Alex likely intended to decline at the altar, so she preempted him when asked to respond first.
“I put 110 percent into whatever I do. I aimed to navigate through our challenges,” she told Us. “I’m a fighter, and if we had disagreements or issues to resolve, I wanted to address them. In the end, the truth could not be uncovered. I couldn’t transform him into the man I believed I deserved — and that was on Alex.”
Ashley expressed that she and Alex were incompatible but harbored no animosity towards her former fiancé.
“We’re not enemies,” Ashley emphasized. “There will likely never be any romance between us, but we’re on good terms. No hard feelings; we were just not a match. We shared this unusual experience together, so we’ll always hold that.”
In a separate interview, Alex told Us that he wished Ashley well, despite their romance not working out.
“[We had a] very healthy, kind of, conclusion at this point,” he said, acknowledging that his “complicated” explanation of his living situation might be tough for many Americans to fully comprehend due to his “nomadic lifestyle.”
Love Is Blind is available to stream on Netflix.
