Bachelor’s Hannah Ann Sluss Reveals ‘Steep’ Hospital Bill Following Childbirth
Bachelor Nation alum Hannah Ann Sluss faced a hefty hospital bill after welcoming her first child.
“I gave birth a month ago to our little baby boy, and now we have our hospital bill,” Sluss, 29, shared in a video on TikTok on Tuesday, December 23. “I wanted to break down exactly how much it was.”
Sluss remained in the hospital for under three days.
“I checked in on a Wednesday night, gave birth early Thursday morning, and left by Friday afternoon,” she explained. “It was quite quick. Starting with the delivery room, that was $8,366, and the OB second bed was $5,850. I assume that’s the postpartum room they had me in. That’s a steep price for one night.”
According to Sluss, the $5,000-a-night room is the “most expensive hotel” she has ever stayed in. The former Bachelor winner also incurred $3,681 in pharmacy expenses.
“I don’t know why I did this to myself, but after giving birth, the nurse asked if I wanted Motrin,” Sluss recalled. “I had already received an epidural, and I thought, ‘I want to detox everything.’ I was being silly because a few hours later I began experiencing significant pain.”
Sluss suffered a “second-degree tear” during the delivery of Lucas, which was the source of her unexpected discomfort.
“So, I was definitely ready for that Motrin as soon as I could,” she noted, mentioning there was also a $3,000 fee for “O.R. services” and a $473 charge for “lab hematology.”
Sluss continued, “Laboratory costs were $372, IV solutions $235, and drugs and pharmacy $20.93, which must have been the Motrin. The total charges amounted to $22,000.92. We only paid $104.”
@hannahannsluss Should I expect more bills to come? 🤭 Sharing just for fun, I am SO thankful for the incredible doctors, nurses, and care that made it all worth it 🤍 thank you isn’t enough!!! 🙏 #hospitalbill #laboranddelivery #newborn #firsttimemom #babyboy
Sluss and her husband, Jake Funk, also encountered a charge for the epidural, which totaled $7,500.
“We covered $840 of that, which was definitely worth it,” she remarked. “I would have probably paid anything. We haven’t received any bills for [my son] yet. I’m left wondering if more will arrive. That’s the reality of costs associated with having a baby in the United States.”
Despite the hefty delivery expenses, Sluss felt immensely grateful that everything went smoothly.
“I am really thankful for the amazing doctors, nurses, and care that made it all worthwhile,” she noted in her social media video. “Thank you doesn’t suffice!!! 🙏.”
In the short weeks since Lucas’ arrival, Sluss has gained much insight.
“One of the biggest surprises about motherhood for me has been realizing how much we women can endure, both physically and emotionally,” she shared exclusively with Us Weekly earlier this month. “You go from experiencing the most significant physical and emotional transitions of your life to then immediately caring for another life.”
Sluss added, “I’ve been amazed by how much I can push through pain and really thrive on very little sleep.”
The reality TV star further expressed that she and Funk, 27, are loving their “newborn bubble” during this holiday season.
“This Christmas, it’s just going to be the three of us,” she revealed to Us, mentioning they decorated their tree with an ornament celebrating Lucas’ birth. “It’s going to be so much fun to have a tree that tells our family story.”
