Barbara Walters’ Iconic Interviews Over the Years: A Photo Collection
Barbara Walters was a trailblazer in broadcasting, engaging with numerous prominent figures from former President Richard Nixon to pop sensation Taylor Swift.
“I do my homework, so I have a certain sense of authority,” Walters — who passed away at the age of 93 in December 2022 — shared exclusively with Us Weekly in May 2014. “Sometimes I know more about the person than they do themselves. I’m very rarely nervous. When I finish an interview, I do ‘shoulda, coulda, woulda,’ and it drives me crazy, but when I’m actually doing the interview, I feel a strong sense of authority and that’s a good feeling.”
Walters began her career on NBC’s Today in 1961, where she was initially assigned to light stories and weather updates. Within a year, she advanced to reporter-at-large and began conducting significant interviews. The Boston native later took the reins of the ABC Evening News, 20/20, and The View.
Throughout her impressive six-decade career, Walters interviewed renowned personalities like Fidel Castro, Christopher Reeve, and Monica Lewinsky, the latter of which attracted a staggering 74 million viewers.
Walters was also famous for her annual special, Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People, where she interviewed a variety of notable figures before year-end.
In May 2025, it was revealed that her most unforgettable TV moments and interviews would be showcased in the documentary Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything, which was debuted a month later.
