Behind the Scenes of Season 10 of The Kardashians: My Secrets to Achieving a Flawless Camera-Ready Makeup Look

This morning, I was taken aback when I saw myself featured in episode 10 of season six of Hulu’s popular reality series, The Kardashians. For those who haven’t heard, the show chronicles the escapades of the six legendary Kar-Jenner sisters along with their ‘momager’, Kris Jenner.

It has always been one of my all-time favorites, so when the opportunity arose to interview Khloé Kardashian about her newest fragrance, I eagerly accepted.

Achieving makeup that looks perfect for the camera requires a distinct skill set. I always knew the techniques, but now that I’ve made my TV debut with my own glam (and actually managed to look good!), I feel as though I’ve finally figured out the essentials for achieving the ultimate close-up glam.

Here are the essential tips and tricks for camera-ready glam…

Step 1: Prep Like a Pro

Beautiful makeup begins with effective skin prep. Prior to applying glam, I made sure my skin was fresh, hydrated, and primed for long-lasting wear.

Here are my top products:

  • Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré – A beloved moisturizer that provides a plush feel without greasiness.
  • Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer – Smooths over pores and secures makeup without feeling heavy.

Step 2: Flawless, No-Flashback Base

Under intense lighting or with flash photography, certain foundations and powders can reflect awkwardly—hello, ghost face! The trick is to use flash-friendly formulas and the correct undertones.

My favorites are:

  • NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation – Provides medium to full coverage with a natural finish and no SPF (which can cause flashback).
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (Original) – It has no white cast and keeps everything in place.

Step 3: Soft Sculpt

A signature Kardashian look: gently sculpted cheekbones and a defined jawline without harsh lines. Always blend upwards for a lifted effect. Cream products tend to work best under studio lighting as they blend effortlessly into the skin and do not cake.

My go-to trio:

  • Made By Mitchell’s Contour Stick in Chocolate Charm – Creamy, buildable, and blends beautifully.
  • Refy’s Cream Blush in ‘Malaya’ or ‘Rose’ – A soft flush that revitalizes the skin.
  • Makeup by Mario’s Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil – The pearlescent pigments create a vibrant finish for a flawless no-makeup look.

Step 4: Glowy, Not Greasy

Aim for a radiant glow—but in a way that looks natural, not overly shiny. Steer clear of chunky glitter or metallic finishes, which can appear harsh on camera.

  • Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizer in ‘Mesmerize’ – Apply on the high points of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and in the inner corners.

Step 5: Lashes and Liner

For a soft glam look, I opted out of heavy liner and instead focused on maintaining a clean lash line. Although I chose not to wear lashes this time, for on-camera appearances, a subtle fluttery style is often recommended.

  • KVD Beauty Tattoo Liner in ‘Trooper Black’ – A delicate wing enhances the eyes without being too bold.
  • Huda Beauty Classic Lash in ‘Samantha’ – Wispy and full, yet comfortable enough for extended periods on set.

Step 6: Set and Stay

Lengthy days of filming necessitate a setting spray—it’s not optional!

Key product:

  • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray – Locks in makeup without leaving a sticky residue.

Step 7: Nude But Never Dull Lips

On camera, lips can often fade away, so I chose warm neutrals that complemented my features without being overpowering.

My lip combination:

  • MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil in ‘Chestnut’ – The ultimate true brown and a must-have lip liner for deeper skin tones.
  • Huda Beauty Power Bullet Lipstick in ‘Anniversary’
  • Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in ‘Fenty Glow’ – Glossy but not sticky, ideal for quick touch-ups between takes.

Final Advice: Always check your makeup in both natural and artificial light before heading out (or going on set). What looks great in the mirror can sometimes surprise you on camera.

Whether you’re filming, attending an event, or simply want to feel your most glamorous, this routine is foolproof, flattering, and ready for the spotlight.
