Following their separation in 2017, it took several years for actors Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor to find their way back to each other.

Now, after almost 25 years of marriage, Stiller has opened up about their time apart and their decision to reunite.

In an interview with the New York Times, Stiller revealed that their marriage was “not in a great place” after they relocated from California to New York following the disappointing release of Zoolander 2, a film that took him by surprise.

“There was a lot happening,” Stiller stated. “When we separated, it allowed us space to evaluate our relationship, to understand what my life felt like outside of it, and to realize how much I valued our family.”

What a plot twist! Although Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor’s love story isn’t perfect, it seems to be heading towards a joyful conclusion. The couple, who married in 2000 and have shared the screen in numerous projects, publicly announced their separation in 2017. However, they created quite a stir at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards, showing smiles for the camera as they posed together with their son.

“We were apart for about three to four years, yet we remained connected. In my heart, I never wanted us to be apart,” he continued.

“I can’t speak for Christine, but the pandemic brought us all back under one roof.”

When NYT journalist David Marchese described the timing of their reconciliation as “an act of God,” Stiller agreed wholeheartedly.

We lived in the same house for almost a year before actually getting back together,” Stiller explained. “I am incredibly thankful for that time, as not many couples manage to reunite after separating.”

Stiller and Taylor are proud parents of two children: daughter Ella, 22, and son Quinlin, 19.

Stiller added: “Coming back together is an irreplaceable experience. You gain a deeper appreciation for what you have, knowing it could easily slip away.”

In a conversation with Drew Barrymore in 2023, Taylor expressed that their reconciliation during the pandemic was “for us.”

“We rushed into marriage,” Taylor reflected on their wedding in 2000. “We were engaged after just six months of knowing each other and married within a year, welcoming Ella shortly thereafter.”

“I think life, especially in this industry, often pulls people in various directions. We both experienced personal growth that was necessary,” she noted.

A journey of personal evolution. Christine Taylor shared insights into why she and her husband Ben Stiller went their separate ways and what ultimately brought them back together. “Our wedding happened very fast after we met,” the 51-year-old actress shared during a March 7 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “Within the first six months, we were engaged…”

During their separation, Taylor revealed that their intention was to keep the matter private as it was a significant decision for both. They found themselves at an “impasse” that necessitated a period of reflection.

Taylor emphasized the importance of their time apart, noting that it allowed them both to grow individually, even as adults. Though separated, they maintained a sense of family throughout the process.

“Ultimately, we found our way back to each other,” Taylor concluded. “We had ample time to communicate.”
