Billy Ray Cyrus Responds to Miley’s Claim That He ‘Cried’ Over Her Song ‘Secrets’

Billy Ray Cyrus is expressing his support for daughter Miley Cyrus following her candid remarks about their relationship in a recent interview.

“What a Sunday Callin!!! Kicking things off with @mileycyrus on CBS Sunday Morning. One exceptional song can do wonders for the soul—much greater than countless therapy sessions,” Billy Ray, 64, shared on Instagram on Sunday, October 5. “Absolutely! Music Changes Everything!! 🎶.”

He wrapped up by expressing, “Feeling so thankful and grateful to our Almighty Glorious God for all the good things after playing baseball with my grandson this morning and tending to the horses. 🙏♥️.”

Billy Ray accompanied the post with a nostalgic picture of the father-daughter pair while featuring their song “Butterfly Fly Away.”

Billy Ray Cyrus had a heartfelt moment when his daughter Miley Cyrus presented him with the song “Secrets” for his birthday. “My dad cried,” Miley, 32, shared during her CBS Sunday Morning interview released on Sunday, October 5. “You don’t often see your dad cry, but with me and my dad, we just […]”

This post came shortly after Miley, 32, disclosed in her CBS Sunday Morning interview that Billy Ray “cried” when she gifted him the song “Secrets” for his birthday.

“You don’t witness your dad getting emotional frequently. But between my dad and me, we’ve always communicated better through music,” Miley stated.

When questioned about whether she and Billy Ray were “at peace now with each other” after a rollercoaster ride of their relationship, Miley confidently replied, “Yeah.”

Miley released her album Something Beautiful in May, mentioning that “Secrets” was inspired by her sometimes challenging relationship with Billy Ray.

“I penned this song for my dad because I desired for him to share with me his secrets, even if they were difficult to hear. I wanted to be the one he felt secure enough to confide in about the things that affected our family,” she explained on the “Reclaiming With Monica Lewinsky” podcast in June.

Miley further elaborated, “As a middle child, I felt mature enough to handle some of those truths. I always wanted my family to think of me as a safe haven, the one they could approach with anything.”

Two months later, Billy Ray publicly acknowledged Miley’s thoughtful gesture. “For my birthday, Miley gifted me the song ‘Secrets’ and brought in my favorite musicians, Fleetwood Mac, to play on it!” Billy Ray posted on Instagram at that time. “Love you, Miley ❤️.”

Billy Ray shares Miley with ex-wife Tish Cyrus, whom he was married to for 28 years before their separation in 2022. Following his marriage to Tish, he adopted her children Brandi, 38, and Trace, 36. The couple also welcomed Braison, 31, and Noah, 25, while Billy Ray is the father of Christopher, 33, with ex Kristin Luckey.

Miley and Billy Ray, who starred together in Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, have consistently opened up about their relationship throughout the years.

“As I’ve matured, I’ve come to regard my parents as individuals, not just as my parents. My mom has loved my dad all her life, and it’s tough being married to someone in the music industry without being a part of it,” Miley remarked during a May chat for The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast. “I believe I absorbed some of my mom’s pain as my own because it affected her more deeply than it did me as an adult, which led me to carry a lot of her burdens.”
