Bridget Moynahan Directs ‘Boston Blue’ Episode of Blue Bloods Amid DUI Arrest

Blue BloodsBridget Moynahan returned to Boston Blue to direct an episode featuring Donnie Wahlberg‘s character’s son involved in a DUI arrest.

In an exclusive clip from Us Weekly, previewing the episode airing on Friday, December 12, the hit CBS series shows Jonah (Marcus Scribner) and Sean (Mika Amonsen) on duty when they encounter a disruptive driver. They apprehend the individual, who is clearly intoxicated, only to discover he is part of the FDNY.

The official synopsis reveals that Danny (Wahlberg) and Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) “investigate a robbery that becomes personal, prompting Lena to take a risk,” while Sean and Jonah “navigate tensions among firefighters.” Meanwhile, Sarah (Maggie Lawson) “butts heads with her boyfriend Seth over family discipline.”

This episode, directed by Moynahan, 54, is notable for Blue Bloods fans who recognize her as Erin Reagan. Wahlberg, 56, and Moynahan previously portrayed siblings on Blue Bloods, which aired on CBS from 2010 to 2024. The series drew viewers into the life of New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his children: Danny, Erin, and Jamie (Will Estes).

After almost 15 years on air, the series finale surprised many fans. This conclusion followed Wahlberg’s statements to Us, expressing his hopes for Blue Bloods to reach the success of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

“I mean, Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay have been going for, gosh, so many years, and we hope to last as long as they have,” he remarked in April 2023. “I try to stay focused on each episode and take each script as it comes, saying, ‘What’s happening now? What am I doing this week?’ and discovering the journey in that episode without worrying about next year or the year after.”

Wahlberg humorously mentioned that he wouldn’t mind a Blue Bloods spinoff, saying, “Danny and Erin become private investigators and move to Hawaii, but that was too close to [Selleck’s iconic 1980s series] Magnum, P.I., so we didn’t want to go that route.”

The actor’s desire became a reality with Boston Blue, which broadened the Blue Bloods universe.

Ahead of Moynahan’s directed episode in Boston Blue on Friday, Wahlberg shared a behind-the-scenes photo with the actress and hinted at her exciting return to the franchise.

“Reunited and it feels so good! So thrilled to have my dear friend and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue!” he posted on Instagram in July. “She’ll also lend her fantastic directing skills to the show this season! More fun (and surprises) ahead. 👀 Let’s go! 💙❤️.”

Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
