Britney Spears Concerned K-Fed’s Book May Create ‘Barrier’ with Her Sons (Exclusive)
Britney Spears has made significant strides in her relationship with her previously estranged sons over the past year. However, she fears that Kevin Federline‘s upcoming explosive memoir might jeopardize this progress, an exclusive source reveals to Us Weekly.
“She’s been overjoyed in her relationship with the boys, but Kevin’s allegations have erected another barrier she now has to navigate with them,” the insider elaborates.
Spears, 43, first “discussed” Federline’s soon-to-be-released book, You Thought You Knew, with Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, “weeks ago,” according to the source. She intends to talk to them again “once she fully understands Kevin’s claims.”
Excerpts from Federline’s tell-all are circulating online ahead of its release next Tuesday, October 21. Among various shocking revelations, the former backup dancer, 47, asserts that his ex-wife kissed another woman just weeks into their relationship, dialed her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake the night before their wedding, and used cocaine at a party while still breast-feeding—actions he describes as his “final straw.”
Spears called out Federline’s “white lies” in a lengthy social media statement on Wednesday, October 15, stating, “The constant gaslighting from [my] ex-husband is incredibly hurtful and draining. … [He is] going straight to the bank, while I am the only one who genuinely suffers here.”
Her representative also commented, telling Us on Tuesday, October 14, “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being amidst this sensationalism.”
The insider confirms that Spears is “truly upset and shocked” by Federline’s claims.
“She believes he’s trying to set her up again for a conservatorship, and she knows that’s not going to happen,” the source reveals, referencing the legal arrangement that controlled her life and finances from 2008 to 2021. “She suspects Kevin is attempting to alienate the boys from her again just as their relationship has been improving. His allegations seem like a desperate money-making maneuver, but she trusts that people will see through his intentions.”
In an exclusive interview with Us on Wednesday, Federline—who no longer receives $40,000 a month in child support from Spears—denied that his memoir is a cash grab.
“Money’s not the motivation here,” he asserted. “I feel like, if she has the right to share her story, why shouldn’t I?” (Spears released her own bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, in 2023.)
Federline also dismissed concerns that his tell-all might impact Preston and Jayden’s relationship with their mother, telling Us, “This isn’t my children’s book, right? It’s my book. So, I hope it doesn’t affect them. I’m only hoping it helps resolve this situation.”
The source indicates that Spears is “not going to read” You Thought You Knew but will “have someone inform her about anything written specifically about her in the book.” As of now, she is “not considering legal action,” according to the insider.
Spears and Federline have not communicated in years—he mentioned to Us that he “couldn’t even recall” their last conversation, while the source estimates it was “around 2019”—but she senses a recurring pattern.
“She was aware during their marriage that he resented her due to her fame and wealth,” the insider tells Us. “She recognized he didn’t safeguard her, and it’s no surprise that he’s still not protecting the mother of his children.”
Although Spears has been “sleep-deprived” due to the resurfaced drama, the insider assures fans that she is “taking care of herself and trying to remain calm.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Spears’ representative and Federline’s lawyer for comments.
