Brittany Cartwright Criticizes Trump’s Claims Linking Tylenol and Autism
Brittany Cartwright has voiced her concerns after President Donald Trump implied a connection between Tylenol and autism during a White House briefing on Monday, September 22.
“Autism was documented long before Tylenol was ever created. There are numerous children on the spectrum who have never received vaccines or whose mothers didn’t take Tylenol during pregnancy,” Cartwright, 36, stated in an Instagram post featuring clips from Trump’s briefing.
“The term ‘virtually’ appears multiple times because there are clearly still instances of autism in those communities as well,” she continued. “I’m grateful that autism is being researched, and I hope we can learn more in the future, but our children are amazing and deserve better than misinformation from our government.”
Trump, 79, associated the use of Tylenol, a brand name for acetaminophen, by pregnant women with a heightened risk of autism on Monday. Despite this, numerous health organizations globally dismissed the president’s assertions.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) underscores that there is no definitive scientific proof connecting autism with the use of acetaminophen (also known as paracetamol) during pregnancy,” the WHO stated on Wednesday, September 24.
The WHO further mentioned, “Significant research has been conducted over the last decade, including large-scale studies examining the relationships between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism. As of now, no consistent correlation has been found.”
Tylenol’s parent company, Kenvue, expressed in a statement on Monday, “We strongly believe that independent, solid scientific evidence shows that taking acetaminophen does not lead to autism. We fundamentally disagree with any alternative viewpoints and are deeply troubled by the potential health risks this poses to expectant mothers.”
Cartwright has previously shared her journey regarding her son Cruz’s autism diagnosis. The Valley star is the mother of Cruz, 4, whom she shares with her estranged husband, Jax Taylor.
“He crawled early, walked early, and was speaking, saying ‘Mommy,’ and ‘Daddy,’” Cartwright shared in an April interview with People. “However, as he approached age 2, we began to see him regressing in his speech. He nearly stopped talking altogether.”
Cartwright mentioned that Cruz is mainly nonverbal but will “occasionally say different words.” She added, “It’s challenging because I’ve never heard him say ‘I love you,’ but he is so affectionate and shows me his love every day. He is truly a mommy’s boy.”
