Captain Jason from Below Deck Believes Aesha Would Have Dealt with Ben Differently
Captain Jason Chambers elaborated on why he believes chief stew Daisy Kelliher was a more suitable match against Ben Robinson compared to alum Aesha Scott during season 4 of Below Deck Down Under.
“[Daisy and Ben] are always at it. They don’t stop,” Jason shared exclusively with Us Weekly. “This is why I think people like Kate Chastain and Hannah Ferrier were so strong, especially early on with Ben. I’m not sure if Aesha [Scott] would have managed it in the same way.”
Jason pointed out that the Below Deck Mediterranean star is currently at a different “stage in her life,” adding, “She was like, ‘I don’t need this.’ In contrast, Daisy came in with so much to prove to herself and had the strength to dig her heels in.”
He continued, “Watching those two interact, I hope it’s all captured. They’ll be going at each other for a solid two to three minutes, and I’m just there enjoying it. Then it usually ends with a sarcastic joke and some laughter as they walk off into the sunset. That was the vibe — constant laughter.”
The official trailer for season 4 hinted at the tension between Daisy and Ben. For her part, Daisy teased Us Weekly about the outcomes of her exchanges with Ben.
“This season in the galley, my major challenges [involved Ben],” Daisy shared exclusively with Us Weekly ahead of the season’s return. “Ben is quite an interesting person to work with. He’s fun, has a great personality, and is fantastic for TV. But he definitely poses a challenge.”
Daisy recognized some similarities between herself and Ben.
“Maybe we’re both just as stubborn as each other,” she admitted. “[Our conflicts were] really a mix of several issues. It involved the guest cabin, how he managed his team, and his approach to running the galley. Communication difficulties arose—specifically timing and differing visions for service. There were honestly numerous challenges.”
Despite their challenges, Daisy remarked that Ben is “a hard person to stay mad at,” saying, “Neither of us wanted animosity; we both aimed to provide the best for the guests. With that in mind, we consistently returned to our shared goal and would ask, ‘Alright, how can we make this work?’”
She continued, “However, as the season progressed, I found myself growing frustrated. We had a few flare-ups, and there were definitely arguments. It became difficult because I was trying to do a good job — just as he was. Everything was genuinely a challenge.”
Meanwhile, Jason hinted that season 4 presented “challenges for everyone” on board.
“There’s a noticeable difference between the conflicts we’ve seen in previous seasons and this one. This is what the audience will truly enjoy, and I’m beginning to see how it will unfold myself. I only get glimpses of it with you all. The ongoing issues stem from genuine personality and work-related challenges,” Jason explained. “Working in such close quarters leads to raw emotions. It’s not merely pointless disputes over trivial matters; it involves the entire crew — not just heads of department. There’s more to the drama than they’ve shown. It’s genuinely significant and poignant to the operation of a vessel.”
Below Deck Down Under airs on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. New episodes are available for streaming the following day on Peacock.
