Charlie Sheen Reveals Why He Was Absent for Daughter Cassandra’s Birth
Charlie Sheen offers a glimpse into the reasons behind his absence at the birth of his first daughter, Cassandra Estevez.
In his memoir, The Book of Sheen: A Memoir, released on Tuesday, September 9, the 60-year-old actor reminisced about a time when he rekindled a relationship with his high school ex-girlfriend Paula Profit, which was primarily for “the late-night physical benefits.”
Sheen noted that besides “Candy in real-Vegas and the L.A. Xpress on Pico Boulevard,” Profit was “all [he] knew.” (In another part of the memoir, he reveals his first sexual encounter was with “a stunning red-headed Vegas escort named Candy.”)
“[Paula’s] mom had a two-bedroom flat on the second floor of a building near Samohi,” he wrote. “Paula’s room featured a fire escape that I’d scale for our late-night rendezvous. This lasted about a month until we neglected the birth control, and Paula became a plus-one.”
Sheen elaborated that Profit had just turned 19 while he was 18.
“Not exactly the life path either of us envisioned at that point,” he wrote. “I made my case, but she stood her ground. After considerable soul-searching, I changed my perspective a bit later. On December 12, 1984, in the late afternoon, Paula gave birth to a healthy seven-pound baby girl named Cassandra.”
He continued, “An incredible gift to humanity. I didn’t attend the birth. My ‘a bit later’ didn’t come until after the new year. We’ve been good ever since—mostly. (Not being f***ing married probably helped.)”
Sheen later welcomed daughters Sami, 21, and Lola, 20, with ex-wife Denise Richards, whom he married from 2002 to 2006, as well as twin sons Bob and Max, 17, with third wife Brooke Mueller. Sheen and Mueller, 48, were together from 2008 to 2010. (His first marriage was to Donna Peele from 1995 to 1996.)
“They’ve made me a better man,” he told In Touch months after the arrival of his sons.
Over the years, Sheen has been open about fatherhood, sharing a touching moment in 2010 when he walked Cassandra down the aisle to marry her childhood sweetheart, Casey Huffman. Three years later, he became a grandfather when the couple welcomed their daughter, Luna.
“It’s impossibly the most wondrous day,” Charlie exclaimed to TMZ at the time, reflecting on the birth of his first grandchild. “My bucket list is a thimble!”
