Cher’s Son Elijah Blue Allman’s Wife Addresses Overdose Reports
The estranged wife of Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman has spoken out following his reported drug overdose.
On Sunday, June 15, TMZ reported that Elijah, 48, was taken to the hospital a day prior in Joshua Tree, California, after an overdose incident.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department later informed Us Weekly that deputies had “responded to a residence in Landers for a male subject acting erratically” on Saturday, June 14, around 1:25 p.m. The statement further explained, “When deputies arrived, Elijah Allman, 48, was being assessed by emergency medical personnel. Deputies found drugs within the home, and Allman was transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.”
In a statement to People on Sunday, Elijah’s wife, Marieangela King Allman, addressed the musician’s “inner struggles” in light of the news.
“While it is true that Elijah has faced personal challenges in the past, one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves,” Marieangela, who filed for divorce from Elijah in April, stated.
“Like many, he continues to confront his inner struggles — but it is essential to recognize that he does so from a place of strength, not defeat,” the statement continued. “Despite the assumptions that often influence how his journey is portrayed, the reality is that Elijah remains grounded, focused, and deeply committed to living with integrity and purpose.”
Marieangela further stated, “I want to emphasize, without reservation, that I will always root for him. My support is unwavering and stems from a profound respect for the person he is and the resilience he continues to demonstrate.”
Marieangela filed for divorce from Elijah in April after 11 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, as noted in court documents obtained by Us Weekly. The couple married on December 1, 2013. Elijah initially filed for divorce from Marieangela in 2021, but that petition was subsequently dismissed, and they stayed together until this past March.
In her divorce filing, Marieangela indicated the couple’s date of separation as March 31. At that time, she requested exclusive use of their home and their vehicle, a 2017 Toyota Prius V.
“We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish,” Marieangela told TMZ in April. “I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart. As we turn the page to this next chapter, we kindly ask for privacy and truly appreciate your understanding.”
Elijah is the only son of Cher and the late musician Gregg Allman. She also has a son, Chaz Bono, with the late Sonny Bono.
