Chrishell Stause Hints at Leaving Selling Sunset Post-Reunion While Discussing Feuds
Chrishell Stause has hinted at a potential departure from Selling Sunset after sharing her candid insights about her fallout with Emma Hernan and the ongoing conflict with Nicole Young.
Following the debut of season 9 on Netflix on Wednesday, October 29, Chrishell opened up about the drama in a revealing interview with Variety, explaining why she did not foresee the season taking such a tumultuous turn.
“I felt like I was in a good place with everyone — I felt happy and confident about the real estate side,” she shared on Friday, October 31, reflecting on her approach to filming season 9. “This is a trend with the show; when you think it’ll be an easy season, those are the ones that turn out to be the most challenging.”
Despite the rollercoaster of emotions — which persisted even after filming concluded — Chrishell has no regrets.
“I enjoyed this season. I wouldn’t say it was difficult for me. It’s just that the reunion brought everything to a head, and how it all unfolded was unexpected,” she hinted. “I entered the season believing it would be smooth sailing. Famous last words, right?”
Read on for Chrishell’s honest reflections leading up to the reunion on Wednesday, November 5 — including her thoughts on her future with the show:
Chrishell’s Falling Out With Emma
In her conversation with Variety, Chrishell mentioned that “a lot” of crucial context about Emma’s boyfriend Blake Davis was “omitted” from the show.
“When I first met him, there were numerous red flags within a short timeframe. Sometimes you just don’t connect with someone based on their demeanor or style, but he exhibited traits that felt genuinely concerning. He recently tweeted about suing me, which isn’t typical behavior. Anyone meeting him wouldn’t want their friend in a relationship with him. On camera, he portrayed one persona, but in reality, he shifted completely,” she articulated.
Chrishell remembered Blake initially being “pleasant” toward her before things changed, stating, “He would say extremely troubling things. My core values clash with that mindset, which was upsetting. Even during being nice, he equated nonbinary identities with mental illness. That’s a personal matter for me. There’s so much that remains unseen that’s more significant than what they can portray in a lighthearted show.”
According to Chrishell, talking about Emma’s relationship brought her to a “dark place.” (The couple, who had an on-and-off dynamic during the season, are currently together.)
“It was disheartening. For a long time, I extended my support and empathy as a friend. She would confide in me, sharing her fears, and after breakups, she’d disclose the worst things he did,” Chrishell reminisced. “As a true friend, I was there for her. Then, she returned to him. She was posting from his yacht and ignoring my calls.”
She continued: “The entire situation saddens me. I wish I had a more positive view on it. Initially, I blamed him solely. I thought she was innocent. But over time, I had to accept they’re aligned, and it’s her choice. However, it’s not something I want in my life.”
Chrishell had previously accused Blake of using a racial slur. In response, Blake shared his DMs with Chrishell from Instagram, revealing several exchanges. Chrishell noted that her conflict with Blake profoundly affected her friendship with Emma.
“Once we were best friends — me, her, and Chelsea [Lazkani], who she also no longer engages with. It’s a heartbreaking situation,” she added. “At this point, they deserve each other. I wish them well. … I don’t want to be her friend anymore. Her values are clear, and they do not align with mine.”
Why Chrishell Didn’t Film With Bre Tiesi
Chrishell pointed to Bre Tiesi’s current legal troubles — being sued by three former employees for alleged inappropriate behavior — as a reason why their scenes this season felt inauthentic.
“I understand the show’s hesitance to cover certain topics, but then explaining my change in feelings towards someone becomes challenging,” she mentioned. “When Chelsea and Emma had their issues with Bre, I was hesitant. I needed to hear directly from Bre. And now, we’ve conducted a complete 180.”
Chrishell also alleged that Bre made comments regarding her partner, G Flip. (Bre previously denied similar accusations after Chrishell claimed Bre wore MAGA-themed jewelry in a controversial post.)
“I was shown and connected with individuals who could testify to private conversations Bre had about me and my partner. I received text messages as proof. I was around her when I saw her lose her temper with staff and crew members,” Chrishell continued. “It wasn’t beyond reason. But the slurs and mockery of someone so dear to me were shocking.”
Consequently, Chrishell chose to “avoid” Bre during filming.
“If I can’t have a genuine conversation, then I prefer not to engage superficially. I felt somewhat constrained. I aimed to keep it brief,” she explained. “Yet she was fully aware of my concerns and refrained from discussing them. With the lawsuit, she can’t say much until resolved, making it advantageous for her to use that as an excuse.”
Chrishell added: “There were instances where we could have communed. However, there was a substantial fear it would escalate into discussions of racism or homophobia. These are significant topics during a time when viewers want to simply enjoy the show.”
Her Fight With Nicole Young
After witnessing her conflict with Nicole, which escalated when Nicole remarked about her parents, Chrishell attempted to consider both perspectives.
“I can see how I could have handled my reaction better. It’s challenging in the moment because these are my parents. That topic feels taboo. She brings out my worst side. Anyone who resorts to discussing someone’s deceased parents has crossed an unforgivable line,” Chrishell stated. “I could have stayed and continued the dialogue. Yet, I saw no purpose. She embarrassed herself enough in that moment, leaving me with nothing to prove. She revealed her true character.”
Chrishell expressed relief at Nicole’s dismissal from the Oppenheim Group but hinted that this decision might not be final.
“I suspect Jason [Oppenheim] faced pressure from production, wanting the show to maintain a lighter tone while she consistently brings it down. The producers checked in with me later, ensuring we wouldn’t have a negative season,” she reminisced. “Nicole got removed from the show. They had her participate in interviews for the reunion, but she wasn’t present for group dinners or open houses. She’s no longer on the sheet. Technically, she remains an independent contractor, allowing her to keep her real estate license. Regarding her situation, you’d need to ask her. I’m uncertain about what transpires behind that wild wig.”
Chrishell disclosed being “incentivized” by production to attempt filming with Nicole one last time before dinner disrupted any chance for interaction.
“I agreed to a dinner, which led to the fallout as expected,” she concluded. “Consequently, I never had to film with her again. That was the sole occasion.”
The Surprising Issues With Sandra Vergara
“I want to be totally transparent; I’m not here to make friends with anyone cast on the show. I don’t want that expectation, because it’s a losing game for me,” Chrishell explained regarding her stance towards the newcomer. “If I’m unkind to you, you’ll spread that narrative. If I’m nice, you may still react like she did. Throughout filming, she lacked even a license. I’m unsure if she has one now, but that was her goal.”
Chrishell justified her choice to maintain distance from Sandra, who later claimed Chrishell was unwelcoming.
“In a real-world context, I’ve been with the company for a long time. You have someone here who isn’t even qualified and lacks the basic requirement of a license. If I’m being friendly and supportive, then discover she talks negatively about me behind my back while expecting kindness in return, I’m checked out of that situation,” she clarified. “I’m portrayed as the villain by some viewers. I’ve accepted that. Fortunately, I’m at a stage where I don’t care anymore. I regret being as courteous as I was because she didn’t deserve it.”
Chrishell also discussed why she accused Sandra of damaging someone’s car, which she refuted, stating, “I waited for her initial response; that would give me the insight. Her surprise made me think twice. The informant was someone who had worked for me and later stole, thus I can’t fully trust them. Yet, her adamant reaction made me accept the possibility.”
Ultimately, Chrishell stated that a friendship with Sandra is unlikely due to the fallout from the reunion.
Regrets From the Reunion
When asked about her regrets from the reunion, Chrishell shared, “It would have been better to prevent Bre from controlling the narrative for her image. It would have been empowering if I could present evidence and truths from public sources.”
She continued, “I wish I had taken the opportunity to converse with her since we hadn’t managed to do so all season. I regret not being proactive. Instead, I withdrew, allowing her to present the narrative she wished. If given another chance, I wouldn’t have conceded on that topic.”
Her Future on the Show
When questioned about her potential return for another season, Chrishell seemed to suggest she was contemplating her options.
“The reunion was quite harsh. At that moment, I realized that I may be done here. I wish everyone well, but this environment doesn’t suit me. It felt somewhat like a dog pile,” she added. “I’m unsure when filming will resume. I hope they don’t inform me.”
