Clint Eastwood, 95, Remarks He’ll Keep Working Until He’s ‘Truly Senile’
Clint Eastwood has no intentions of stepping away from the spotlight any time soon.
“As an actor, I was still under contract with a studio, was entrenched in the old system, and had to learn something new each year,” the 95-year-old director and actor told the Austrian newspaper Kurier in an interview published on Friday, May 30, according to a translation from Reuters. “That’s why I’ll continue working as long as I can learn something new, or until I’m genuinely senile.”
The Bridges of Madison County star elaborated: “There’s no reason a man can’t improve with age. My experience has grown significantly. Sure, some directors lose their flair at a certain point, but I’m not one of them.”
Eastwood also shared his thoughts on Hollywood’s seeming fixation with remakes and blockbuster franchises.
“We’re living in an age of remakes and franchises,” Eastwood stated. “I’ve directed sequels three times, but I haven’t found that interesting for quite some time. My philosophy is: create something new or stay home.”
He added, “I yearn for the good old days when screenwriters crafted classics like Casablanca in the small bungalows on the studio lot, when there were plenty of fresh ideas.”
Despite focusing on his career, Eastwood is also mourning the loss of his long-term girlfriend, Christina Sandera, who passed away in July 2024.
“Christina was a wonderful, caring woman, and I will miss her dearly,” Eastwood, 94, conveyed in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter at that time.
The couple was together for over a decade. In 2014, Us confirmed that they met when she was working as a hostess at Eastwood’s Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, where he was once the mayor.
Though they mostly kept their relationship private, they made their red carpet debut in 2015 at the Academy Awards. Eastwood’s film American Sniper was nominated for six awards, including Best Picture. She continued to support him at various events, including the premieres of his films Sully, The Mule, The 15:17 to Paris, and Richard Jewell.
Prior to his relationship with Sandera, Eastwood was married twice. He wed model Maggie Johnson in 1953, with whom he shares two children: son Kyle and daughter Allison. The couple divorced in 1984.
More than a decade later, Clint married Dina Eastwood in 1996, and they welcomed daughter Morgan later that year. Dina and Clint separated in 2013 after 17 years of marriage, with their divorce finalized the year following. Dina moved on with current husband Scott Fisher in 2016.
