Colin Jost Gets Roasted on SNL for Earning Less Than Scarlett Johansson
Colin Jost should feel “shame” for earning less than his wife, Scarlett Johansson — or so suggests “Lord Gaga,” the fictional SNL husband of Lady Gaga.
The character (portrayed by SNL cast member Mikey Day) joined Jost for the Weekend Update segment on Saturday, March 8. After convincing a surprised Jost of his existence, Day added, “How do you think she earned the title of lady? She married a lord. That’s how she became Gaga, while I was simply ‘Born This Way.’”
Lord Gaga then expressed his confusion over Lady Gaga’s successful music career, viewing music merely as a pastime. He further asserted that he couldn’t fathom how Lady Gaga could earn more than he does in textiles.
He then addressed the notion that a wife could out-earn her husband — a scenario that applies to Jost himself.
“Can you picture, Colin, a man whose wife earns more than him?” Lord Gaga exclaimed, feigning shock. “Can you imagine? Oh, the shame he would endure!”
Jost turned to the camera, sharing in the humor. “Imagine, Colin, if I were here on television, sitting behind this desk, looking at that camera, the world watching me, and knowing my wife’s salary eclipses mine! I would perish,” Lord Gaga continued. “Oh, I would perish! What a living horror! What a nightmare!”
Once he composed himself, Lord Gaga politely asked, “Oh, pardon me. Now tell me, what does your wife do?”
Johansson ranks among Hollywood’s highest earners, commanding between $10-20 million per film. Jost’s exact earnings remain undisclosed, but the highest salary on SNL is $25,000 per episode.
Jost and Johansson wed quietly in October 2020. Meals on Wheels announced the news on Instagram, stating, “We’re delighted to share that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost tied the knot over the weekend in a small ceremony with their immediate family and loved ones, adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines as recommended by the CDC.”
“Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this challenging time by supporting @mealsonwheelsamerica. Please consider donating to celebrate the joyous couple,” the organization added.
