Dakota Johnson Dazzles in Sheer Dress Post-Chris Martin Split
Dakota Johnson is embracing bold fashion choices following news of her split from Chris Martin.
The 35-year-old actress was all smiles as she made an appearance in a transparent outfit in Tribeca, New York City on Thursday, June 5, just a day after their breakup made headlines.
The Madame Web star wore a nearly sheer black midi-dress, pairing it with matching black pumps. She finished off her look with a brown Gucci Jackie handbag, black sunglasses, and loose hair.
According to a report by People published on Wednesday, June 4, Johnson and Martin have ended their long-term relationship and called off their engagement after eight years together.
Us Weekly has reached out to representatives for Martin, 48, and Johnson for comments on Wednesday.
Before the news broke on Wednesday, Johnson was seen out in Tribeca without her engagement ring, which she has frequently worn during previous public appearances.
In recent months, speculation about their relationship status had been circulating. Although Johnson supported Martin during his summer 2024 Coldplay tour, eyebrows were raised when she was spotted without her engagement ring in Los Angeles.
Despite this, Johnson’s representative denied any issues, telling Us in August 2024, “The reports are not true. They are happily together.”
Us Weekly confirmed in December 2017 that Martin and Johnson were an item. (Martin had his divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow finalized in July 2016; they share two children, Apple, 21, and Moses, 19.)
The couple, known for their privacy, experienced a brief breakup in the summer of 2019.
Yet, they reconciled a month later, thanks in part to Paltrow, 52.
“Gwyneth is the one who encouraged them to get back together,” a source informed Us in August 2019.

In January 2020, Paltrow expressed her admiration for Martin’s new partner during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
“I love her,” Paltrow stated to the publication. “I realize it may seem unusual since it’s quite unconventional. However, having gone through it together, I genuinely adore her.”
Martin, Johnson, and Paltrow had maintained such a friendly relationship that a source revealed to Us in March 2024 that they had even planned to invite the Goop founder to their wedding.
“They absolutely intend to have Apple and Moses there and wouldn’t feel complete without including Gwyneth too,” the insider disclosed. “Dakota and Gwyneth have become very close over the years, considering themselves family at this point.”
