David Corenswet of Superman Discusses Groin Injury Sustained During Spectacular Stunt

David Corenswet experienced a small incident while filming an “epic” flying scene for Superman.

In a recent Vanity Fair lie detector test released on Thursday, July 10, Corenswet, 32, shared with his costar Nicholas Hoult that he got the “wildest bruise” on his right testicle while using a harness for a flying scene.

“There is footage from filming where — have you seen it? I get pulled through the air,” Corenswet mentioned. “It’s this fantastic epic moment, shown in the trailer, where I stand up, punch the glass, leap out the window, and fly through the air. On the first take of that, it’s this grand punch and leap, and then it’s, ‘My testicle!’”

Corenswet noted he “couldn’t hide” what had occurred since “it’s on film.”

David Corenswet and his wife, Julia Best Warner, celebrated their red carpet debut in style. The couple appeared on the red carpet on Monday, July 7, for the world premiere of Corenswet’s new film, Superman, at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, sharing smiles as they posed for photos.

Hoult, 35, who portrays Lex Luthor in the film, joked in response to Corenswet’s story, “I want to ask you more questions about your testicles, but I’m not sure where it would be appropriate.”

Corenswet takes on the leading role in the 2025 adaptation of Superman, which was released in theaters on Friday, July 11. The film, featuring Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced, follows Superman (a.k.a. Clark Kent) as he endeavors to demonstrate to the world that he is their protector in the face of Lex Luthor trying to turn the public against him.

Corenswet has previously expressed his feelings about stepping into Superman’s cape, succeeding Christopher Reeve, who portrayed the role in the 1978 film.

“I don’t think there’s any way I could or should try to live up to what Christopher Reeve did,” the Twisters star stated in a June interview with CBS News. “I just feel privileged to embody a character that he introduced to the public with such positivity and strength.”

The actor acknowledged the significance of the role, understanding that it could either elevate or hinder his career.

Nicholas Hoult reportedly earned the highest salary among the leading cast of Superman, although he did not portray the Man of Steel. A report from Puck News indicated that the newly-blond Hoult, 35, received $2 million for his role as the infamous DC Comics villain Lex Luthor in writer-director James Gunn’s highly awaited reboot of the Superman franchise.

“Taking on a role that is so visible and iconic, especially one that is tied to such a recognizable image, I wanted to be ready for the possibility that it might not lead to a flurry of opportunities. I realized that if you’re the one chosen to play this part, and you dedicate everything else to it, it could be worth it,” he shared with the outlet. “Given its significance, I felt truly fortunate when I asked myself that question.”

While Corenswet was thrilled about the role, it coincided with a hectic time in his life. He secured the part at the same moment his wife, Julia Best Warner, discovered she was expecting their first child together. (The couple welcomed their baby in early 2024.)

“She shared the news about her pregnancy just two days after I found out about the screen test for Superman,” he told People in June. “For the initial months of her pregnancy, we kept both huge secrets to ourselves. It was quite intense.”
