Discover Your ‘Sex and the City’ Alter Ego, as Revealed by Kristin Davis
Which character are you: Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, or Samantha?
This question has been posed since the debut of “Sex and the City” on June 6, 1998, and continues to resonate.
The show’s four main characters are a supportive group of friends in their 30s, tackling the challenges of love and relationships while exploring New York City, in what Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) describes as a period after the “end of love in Manhattan” during the pilot episode.
Their friendship thrives on phone calls, gatherings, cab rides, and shared meals, often revolving around central discussions where each friend offers a unique viewpoint. Their interactions are rich with playful banter and minor disagreements, showcasing their distinct personalities and creating a timeless means of self-identification.

Kristin Davis, who portrays Charlotte, shares that she relates closely to her character.
“I remember BuzzFeed had a quiz that circulated, and my daughter has taken it, which is quite amusing since she’s also a Charlotte,” she told TODAY.com, chuckling as she mentioned her daughter Gemma.
This character personality quiz inspired her latest project, a “Sex and the City” rewatch podcast titled “Are You A Charlotte?” aimed at connecting with fans.
Currently, on the podcast, Davis and her guests—including TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager, “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell, and Sarah Jessica Parker—are revisiting Season 1.
“I hardly remember much about the first season,” admits Davis. “Filming was quite fast-paced, often all through the night. I believe we had around five days per episode, perhaps even four. It was really quick.”
Today, filming each episode allows for more time, she notes. Davis currently plays Charlotte in “And Just Like That…,” the revival of “Sex and the City.”
As Season 3 approaches, Davis describes it as “a significant season.” At the end of Season 2, Charlotte was embarking on her journey to re-enter the workforce while managing her roles as a wife and mother, which included addressing workload issues with her husband Harry (Evan Handler).
“With the challenge of being a good wife and mother, as her children grow, she’s questioning, ‘How can I dedicate enough time to my career? What do I need to achieve?'” Davis reflects. “This is a significant dilemma for many, and I personally resonate with it. Throughout the season, you’ll witness her struggle with it.
“And it’s a fun, engaging storyline,” she adds.
The revival, which debuted in December 2021, brought together Davis, Nixon, and Parker as Charlotte, Miranda, and Carrie once again. Season 2 notably featured a cameo by Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, in the finale.

Identifying as Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, or Miranda
Fans have enjoyed classifying themselves as one of the show’s characters for years, and Davis has her own thoughts on how to determine which character aligns most with you. She suggests four pivotal questions to consider based on each character’s fundamental traits:
- Are you a searcher?
- Are you a trailblazer?
- Do you speak your mind?
- Are you seeking a conventional outcome in life?
After you answer the question that resonates with you the most, continue reading to find out which “Sex and the City” character that indicates you are.

Carrie!
Davis explains that if you identify with Carrie, you’re likely a searcher looking for answers and exploring your thoughts. “In the original series, Carrie the columnist often approached dilemmas by framing them as questions. A signature line that defines her is: ‘I couldn’t help but wonder,'” she articulates.
Carrie is also characterized by her independence, Davis points out.
“She often seeks her own happiness, rather than conforming to societal expectations,” she adds.

Samantha!
Going beyond Carrie’s independence, Davis describes Samantha as a true “trailblazer.”
“Are you fiercely independent?” she asks. “Are you unapologetic about fulfilling your desires? Those are admirable and strong traits.”

Miranda!
Davis defines a Miranda as someone who is “honest and straightforward.”
“Do you communicate openly?” she questions. “Are you comfortable with unconventional choices, like eating out of a trash can or having a fondness for cats?”
Miranda’s identity is also connected with her ambition, Davis adds.
“Are you focused on your career? She’s a talented lawyer aspiring to become a partner, which showcases her intelligence and determination,” Davis explains. “So, asking if you are highly intelligent could also be a Miranda trait.”

Charlotte!
“To gauge if you are a Charlotte, my advice would be to consider: ‘Do you believe in love? Are you loyal?’” Davis continues.
At her heart, Charlotte yearns for a “traditional outcome” to her life. Davis also mentions her affinity for certain material joys that shape her character.
“Do you adore dogs? Do you prefer structured clothing?” Davis jokes. “Are you fond of white flowers?”
