Donald Trump Backs Sydney Sweeney’s Commercial, Criticizes Taylor Swift
President Donald Trump has voiced his support for Sydney Sweeney’s provocative American Eagle advertisement.
On Monday, August 4, Trump, 79, shared his insights on Sweeney’s “Great Jeans” campaign via Truth Social. He stated, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ’em Sydney!”
He also took a swipe at Taylor Swift, who publicly endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential election.
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I went on TRUTH and revealed my disdain for her (HATE!),” Trump commented. “She was booed out of the Super Bowl and is, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned – Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is where it’s at. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Meanwhile, Swift appears to be thriving. Sales of her song “How Did It End?” reportedly surged by 6,000 percent following its feature on a recent episode of HBO Max’s And Just Like That. Additionally, in April, she secured the No. 9 spot on Forbes’ list of celebrity billionaires. (Contrary to Trump’s claims, she was not “booed out” of the Super Bowl; she remained until the end, whereas Trump exited early.)

“When talking about superstars, who can rival the creative, cultural, and commercial impact of Taylor Swift? The slightest hint of potential new music sends her massive and fervent fanbase into a frenzy,” HITS magazine remarked on Swift, 35, on Friday, August 1. “When she negotiated to regain her original recordings, that moment was a shared victory with her fans, who celebrated alongside her. Regaining those masters equates to billions in market share for Taylor.”
Trump’s message followed shortly after American Eagle’s response to the backlash regarding their advertisement.

“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is fundamentally about the jeans,” the brand stated on Instagram. “Her jeans. Her story. We celebrate how everyone proudly wears their AE jeans, their way. Great jeans suit everyone.”
This statement came in light of the criticism surrounding the ad, where Sweeney, 27, highlighted her denim while cleverly referencing the word “genes.”
In one clip, the camera zooms in on her cleavage as she mentions, “My body’s composition is determined by my genes. Hey, eyes up here.” Following this, a voiceover states, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
In another advertisement, she mimicked Brooke Shields’ iconic 1980s Calvin Klein ad while lying on the ground and adjusting her pants, paralleling Shields’ original moment. Sweeney conveys a message about how “the secret of life lies in the genetic code,” echoing Shields’ line regarding genes influencing individual characteristics and their transmission across generations.
Critics of the American Eagle campaign argue that the ad hints at eugenics, a discredited ideology aimed at enhancing genetics, often linked to white supremacy.
