Dwayne Johnson and his family are grieving the passing of their cherished dog, Hobbs.
The 52-year-old actor shared the sorrowful news on Instagram on Tuesday, February 25, along with a series of photos and videos honoring the late canine.
“RIP 💔 Hobbs,” Johnson began. “This loss has left me numb, but we are incredibly thankful for all the unconditional love he brought to our family and relieved that he didn’t suffer long as he quietly and courageously passed away in the night.”
The former wrestler elaborated on why he selected the song “What’s Going on in Your World” by George Strait as the backdrop for his post.
“Recently, there’s been a lot that feels too large to address. Lonesome, lonely; it seems to feel the same,” he expressed. “This song resonates with me, as I ponder what’s happening in his new world, since I understand my own. Not sure how spirits interact, but I hope he visits from time to time so we can have fun and laugh again. 🥃💔.”

Hobbs was a familiar presence to Johnson’s fans, who followed his adventures through the actor’s social media over the years. The Moana star adopted the French bulldog as a puppy in 2015, along with another Frenchie puppy, Brutus. Shortly after bringing them home, Johnson famously saved Brutus from drowning after he fell into their pool. (Brutus passed away later that year after consuming a poisonous mushroom.)
In 2019, Johnson featured Hobbs — named after his Fast & Furious character — in the Fast & Furious spinoff film, Hobbs & Shaw.
“As the producer of @hobbsandshaw, I felt it was only right to cast my French bulldog in our film. Nepotism shmepotism 😉💁🏽♂️,” he humorously remarked on Instagram at the time. “Three years ago, we welcomed puppy Hobbs and his baby brother, Brutus, into our family. Tragically, we lost Brutus a few months later. It broke our hearts, but this wonderful little guy, Hobbs, continues to thrive and I’m very proud of his performance in our movie.”
He went on, “Plus, he dropped a steaming 3 curler 💩 right in the middle of the set 😂🤦🏽♂️. The biggest star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen and one badass sumbitch.”
Last year, Johnson included Hobbs in his GQ cover shoot, with the pup appearing beside him in several photos.
