Dylan Dreyer Provides Update on Sheinelle Jones’ Absence from the Today Show
Dylan Dreyer has provided an update on Today host Sheinelle Jones, who has been absent from the morning show.
“She’s doing well,” Dreyer, 43, shared with E! News while attending the 2025 Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, May 3. “She’s managing. We’re keeping her and her family in our thoughts. She’s been going through a challenging time with her family.”
Continuing her conversation with the outlet, Dreyer mentioned, “One of us on the team checks in with her every day. We’re here to support her, and we’ll welcome her back with open arms whenever she’s ready.”
Jones, 47, last appeared on Today in December 2024 before her notable absence. Initially, fans assumed she was on a holiday break, but in January of this year, she shared the truth behind her absence.
“Hello everyone … I truly appreciate everyone who has reached out during my time away from the show,” Jones posted on Instagram on January 15. “I want to inform you that I’m taking some time to address a family health issue.”
Jones, who has three children—Kayin, 14, and twins Clara and Uche, 12—with her husband Uche Ojeh, has kept her family’s situation private, thus not revealing the details surrounding her hiatus.
The TV personality expressed her gratitude, noting that it’s “not lost on me how fortunate I am to have both the support of my Today show family and all of you.” She ended with, “Your kindness means the world to me. I’ll be back soon. Love, Sheinelle❤️.”
Savannah Guthrie addressed Jones’ update during an episode of Today, mentioning, “We know so many of you have been inquiring about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her as well.” Craig Melvin added, “Sheinelle, we care about you, and we can’t wait to have you back.”
In addition to cohosting Today‘s 3rd hour alongside Dreyer, Melvin, and Al Roker, Jones also serves as an executive producer for MSNBC’s Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret. Last month, Melvin offered an update on Jones’ well-being during a conversation with Access Hollywood.
“I spoke with her a couple of days ago—she’s taking time for her family, and we’re in touch with her frequently,” he informed the outlet. “We cherish her, and it’s been heartwarming to see how much everyone loves her too.”
